2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Surprised they let media in but I guess they are staying far away from everyone else. Maybe this is the only day media gets in.

From the pictures/video I saw, it looked like they we’re sitting in the Club Ledge section, from 226-228. That’s across from the Arena Club and accessible from the elevator at the VIP entrance. So a reasonable physical distancing accommodation, they’re away from the team.

No statement on Necas’ absence from practice. But no one opted out. Draw your own conclusions.

The Hurricanes and Capitol Broadcasting have reached agreement on a 2 year extension to keep 99.9 The Fan as the flagship station of the Hurricanes radio network (said in my Ray Otis voice). They’ll also continue producing Storm Watch and The Aftermath.

I hadn’t checked in a very long time, but apparantly, there are 2 other stations in the “network”. The Hurricanes Radio Network also includes WWNB ESPN New Bern (104.3 FM / 1490 AM) amd WECU ESPN Greenville (107.5 FM / 1570 AM). The paucity of stations this far into their existence is a bit concerning, although streaming options are available. Capitol owns 6 radio stations in Wilmington, including an ESPN affiliate that is carrying Adam Gold as I type.

It's just great to see photos of the players back on the ice. Suddenly it seems real - different, but real. I'm hoping we'll learn more about Necas over the next few days. We could really use his speed and skill.

Our long national nightmare is over. Necas is on the ice today.

edit: he’s with Trocheck and Nino, with Dzingel also rotating in.

Canes play Caps for exhibition game in Toronto. they will have to pretty much play normal squads for that game. They could let each goalie play a period.

Any other STMs get the email from the Canes with the offer to record videos cheering on the team from home for use when play restarts?

I got it. I had read about this project a few days ago from a couple fans on other teams who got similar info, so I was kinda expecting it.. Not sure if I'm going to do it or not; it's not really my bag - I cheer like a fool when I'm in the stands for real playoff games, but I've never been much for the staged/corny fan stuff, which this smells like. I see what the PL is doing with the Brady Bunch layout with supporters cheering for goals.... meh.

I haven’t gotten an email yet. But I probably won’t do it. I’m in the same boat as Bill, it would feel forced and phony to me.

I've seen a few of the other leagues efforts at this and they are 100% cringeworthy. Hard pass.

Hayes Permar had a hilarious segment on the cheering on Monday while covering for Gold. It boils down to using soundclips from local ACC basketball coaches. Like K's "defense" chant and Roy's "we sucked" soundbite.

looks like Maniscalco on radio for the playoffs. I don't think that means he's hired for next year for TV but I guess it's an easy decision to keep him for now.

Hopefully he improves. When he did it earlier in the 2020 season, he was having a difficult time keeping up.
