2019-20 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Ouch that shipping cost... reminds me of the Jerks T shirt.. :)

Yeah, they’re no joke. I waited until the Jerks shirts were in the store, I might do the same with the masks. I do have a Jerks mask that a friend got for me. She mostly orders 3rd party stuff though.

NCAA put a limit on college media guides , some were nearing 500 pages just for 1 sport. I think it's limited to around 200 now and number of color pictures is limited too.

Against Carolina? Can't go wrong with either. For whoever they might face next, then the kid is the correct call. Then go to the King is he falters. I'm NOT saying Carolina automatically loses this series. I am saying that the goalie isn't the issue either way. Carolina plays like butt against the Jerks no matter who or what they prop up in goal.

Starting Shesterkin is the smart way for the Rangers to play this.

You start the kid and if he plays as well as you would expect, well then, he plays well.

If the kid falters early you put Lundqvist in there.

Its going to be easier I think for Lundqvist to jump in to try to salvage a series if Shesterkin falters than it would be for the Rangers to throw a rookie in there if Lundqvist falters. Then again as we have experienced, rookies have taken over the nets before after the start of the playoffs and won the Conn Smythe, so does it really matter?

I think another factor is Lundqvist has started exactly 5 games since Jan 1st. Shesterkin started 12 games in that period, and it would have been more if he didn't get hurt in a fender bender in late February. Shesterkin was the Rangers #1 after his callup, there really is no good reason for him not to be treated as such in the playoffs.

That could open up a spot for Gauthier in the Rangers lineup (you know how that will go for us).

Claude Lemieux wouldn't have been able to be Claude Lemieux in today's NHL. He would have been suspended frequently.

Cory Lavalette looked it up. Clod was only suspended for 7 games total. He played 1,215 games in the league. Junior has been suspended for 4 games and has played 131.

That is just because the standards for suspension when Claude was playing were much higher than they are now. Claude played most of his career when it was perfectly acceptable to blindside hit an opponent or drive your shoulder up through his jaw (and then in Claude's case, immediately fall down and turtle to avoid having to actually answer for his cheap shots).

Back in the day Claude was a hard nose player who played with an edge and sometime crossed the line. Today he would suspended multiple time a season (as would many players who came from the 80s/90s) with the focus on player safety and suspensions for cheap shots and head shots.

All Canes games on NBC sports net including the exhibition

An important caveat through. The Canes games are on NBCSN, which will be blacked out in the local market because they’ll be carried by the RSNs. So we’ll still get them on Fox Sports Carolinas.

A "salt in the wound" scenario where Forslund may do (some of) our games for the benefit of the rest of the hockey world, but not us.
