2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Of course if he doesn't suit up for tomorrow's game then he's obviously far worse off than is being reported.

At first I thought it may be because players that have played less than 40 games in a season need to play at least one game in the finals to get their name on the cup however Stammer played 57 games so that isn't it. I think he's just rushing because he obviously wants to play.

Teams an also petition for a waiver on the Cup engraving. On the 2005-06 Hurricanes, Andrew Hutchinson played 36 regular season games, Anton Babchuk 22 and neither played in the playoffs. But their names are on the Cup.

LeBrun tweeted the details of Perry’s contract

Jeff Petry contract breakdown:

2021-22, $5M salary
2022-23, $4.5M salary, $3 signing bonus
2023-24, $4.5 M salary, $3 signing bonus
2024-25, $3M salary, $2M signing bonus

and again, 15-team NTC (no list), and full NMC

So the holdup was adding Sceviour to "even out the trade?" A career mucker? Whatever. Florida got rid of a dumb contract and Pittsburgh got rid of a burned out vet. Congrats to everyone.

Hornqvist is not happy.

Stars butt fucked with no lube
Tell it to Point ... you know, the guy who got called for diving after getting intentionally hooked in the balls by Cory Perry at the end of regulation. The officiating is a 100% predicable travesty in this series.

Dallas summoned a mighty effort after looking punch drunk in Game 3, but losing this one to go down 3-1 in the series is almost certainly a bridge too far. Tampa's just a lot to handle, and it adds up in a long series. Pressure on pressure on pressure.

Woof ... rock and a hard place, there. Petry is already 32 and that contract takes him to 36, which seems like a not great idea at that rate and with the bonus and MTC/MNC stipulations. But take a look around at right shot D who defend well and produce 40-something points and tell me how you replace that guy without an even more significant cost.

Extension starts season after next so it takes him to 37. He’s worth that contract. He’s been steady and injury free for four years.

People need to take these cases by case because the ageism used is wrong.

I mean ... you 100% don't know when a player is going to hit the age wall, and recognizing that the age wall exists is not ageism, it's pragmatism. Acting like players don't drop off at some point in their 30s leads to all sorts of problems in a Cap league, so there's yet another reason to at least factor in mileage. Petry is all but impossible to replace for the same money, so I'm NOT calling that a bad contract ... but let's not act like there's zero risk involved.

There’s risk in signing draft picks. There’s always risk. I’m comfortable with the deal considering the way Petry plays the game. He should age well.

Rangers trade Marc Staal and a 2021 2nd rounder to Detroit for future considerations. He has 1 year left with a $5.7 million cap hit but only $3.2 million actual after the Rangers paid his bonus. He had to waive a no movement clause.

Must be a helluva future...

The future is Pietrangelo. This is obviously a move to clear cap space to try to sign him.

Depends on how much Pietrangelo wants. Rangers have $20 million in cap space but only 14 players under contract. If Pietrangelo wants $9 million, they’ll only have $11 million and still need to sign 6-8 players to fill out the roster.

Corey Perry?! Is this the same Corey Perry that was playing for Anaheim in 1922? How the hell is he only 35 years old?
