2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Pick 1 player from each team and setup an ’Esports’ contest like they did for nascar. The winner gets the Stanley cup.

The thing is, like most viruses, the virus itself is always going to be 'around'. Anyone not vaccinated or otherwise immune will always have a chance of getting infected.

By the fall if everyone is still not vaccinated (which I don't think we will be), COVID-19 will still be a danger and flareups will occur. There will be plenty of danger out there still come October, so I agree that full NHL arena's might be too risky by that time.

probably a pipe dream but I would like them to allow fans to bring their own food and drinks to minimize contact. I know they make a lot on food and beer and not everyone would bring their own stuff. I think racing is the only sport that allows fans to bring in coolers. Even NASCAR allows that.

If you have 10k plus people in an arena and entering through gates how does this reduce contact? Plus now you have the added reviews at the security checkpoints to check your food?

Frank Seravalli says Raleigh probably isn’t under consideration anymore because of inadequate practice facilities.

The bigger question is. Can the league and teams afford to play with little or no gate revenue? If this is going on in the fall regardless of how they decide to do it people are not going to buy tickets and the capacity vastly reduced. Can they make it work with TV revenue only? If so how long?

The Iceplex is nice and I think the Hillsborough rink is good. Don't know about the Garner and Wake Forest rinks and if they are usable for the NHL. .

A. Fine

2. He's right. While we have practice facilities, the fact that they are spread out all over the municipal area is problematic. Ditto with hotel rooms, as there is precious little available at or near the supposed main venue.

Yet again ... I question whether anybody in the league office is actually logic checking these ideas, or are they literally throwing crap out there to give people something to talk about without any real thought into the details? I think you know my conclusion.

The Iceplex is an Olympic--and not NHL--sized rink.

None of the local rinks except for RCI--which is being shut down when the new facility in Morrisville is ready--have adequate locker rooms, etc. for NHL practices.

Is the Iceplex still super cold? Glad I am not paying their power bill.

If none of the sites are north of the border I predict more heads exploding up there.

I haven’t been to RCI in 13-14 years. At that time, only the Canes locker room was adequate, the rest were the same bare bones as the other rinks. And I would imagine the Canes wouldn’t want teams in their locker room.

Nothing's changed, ceiling mold monsters and all ;) There is 1 NHL adequate locker room, and the Canes aren't going to want 7 other teams in there.

LeBrun says the league is getting 12 cities for potential centralized sites. He was told that Minneapolis, Edmonton, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Dallas and Columbus were among them. Also that Raleigh and Buffalo probably aren’t on the list.

Separately, he heard back from 28 front offices regarding the draft being held as scheduled. Only 5 responded that they were in favor, 15 no votes and 8 mixed or no comment.

I’d be pretty shocked - Toronto has already cancelled all events in the city through August and holding this would essentially be a large event. Scotiabank Arena has just been turned into a giant kitchen to prep 10,000 meals per day for front line workers.
