2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

Three games a day at SBA and multiple teams quarantining in Toronto hotels (where members of our community will be working) and shuttling back and forward to various practice rinks is a pretty large event to put on.

I'm in emergency services in Toronto so I'd be pretty pissed if they allowed this after how cautious they've been.

Not advocating for this or anything, but wouldn't it make more sense to base any Toronto activity at Exhibition Place? I don't know why we're focusing on "NHL dressing rooms" in what are clearly not normal circumstances. Sure AHL facilities are adequate. That said, for all I know the Coca Cola Arena is also being used for relief efforts. If so ... chuck all this out as the useless spitballing that it is.

I don't think Coca Cola Coliseum is being used for anything at the moment.

Toronto has been really careful, IMO. We have 3 million people and have managed to keep it to ~4,300 cases so far. There's been hardly any talk of a reopening plan so far, just cancelling almost everything into August. Our mayor, our premier (whose mother in law was just diagnosed) and our prime minister would all have to be on board. I don't see it happening.

But hey, Florida would probably do it.

Some moron on TV said those old people are going to die soon anyway so it doesn't matter if they get CV. If you agree with that then Florida is OK

Nah ... I don't see it happening in GTO either. In fact, I think the whole exercise thus far has been simply to serve giving the media something to talk about. I don't think anything like a viable plan has been discussed ... and I think the league knows that full well.

I’d be pretty shocked - Toronto has already cancelled all events in the city through August and holding this would essentially be a large event. Scotiabank Arena has just been turned into a giant kitchen to prep 10,000 meals per day for front line workers.

Seems fair. From what I've been told the only ones who spend more time on their PS4s than Foegs are Aho and Turbo ...

When he needs a break from riding scooters around North Hills with Svech and Dougie. A guy needs some alone time every now and then...

Joel award announced his retirement. I think the league did it for him, he last played in 17-18. He went to the Habs camp on a tryout 2018 but was released.

Prez/CEO John McDonough was fired by Chicago.
Unless McDonough was holding out on firing Stan Bowman for some weird reason, it doesn't make sense to me to can him and not can Bowman at the same time. The Hawks need a realistic leadership group to transition out of "win a championship" mode now that their core is too old (and expensive) do that job anymore. They've been living in deep denial for 2-3 years now, but I'm not sure the various Wirtz family members involved aren't just as delusional as their management staff.

Then again ... it's a Chicago team so they can pack sand for all I care. I'm not going to be upset if they go back to sucking for a decade or so.

The NHL and NHLPA Return to Play Committee met yesterday and released a statement. It had a lot of words and said nothing. They hope to move to Phase 2 in mid to late May. However, that may be impacted by the competitive concerns of the disparate effect on individual cities. Basically, it sounds like the league won’t move to Phase 2 until all teams are permitted by their state/local government quarantine orders.

That's a million dollar quote and you nailed it!!! I cannot think of any better way to put things these days then that! "It had a lot of words and said nothing". I kinda feel like that applies to just about everything right now and it's maddening as hell.
