2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

The latest from LeBrun. There is a Board Of Governors call at 3 where it’s expected they’ll discuss and finalize the June draft. The league sent out guidance on conditional picks on Friday. If the pick was conditioned on making the playoffs, that will be determined by points percentage at the time of the pause. Also based on points percentage, the Canes would get Toronto’s first rounder and the Rangers get the Canes first rounder, since the Canes has the option of dealing the lower of the 2 first rounders.

He also notes that there will be discussion about the 4 hubs when/if play resumes. Unlike the draft, this will require agreement with the NHLPA. He understands that 11-14 teams submitted bids on Friday.

New cooling tower was installed less than 4 years ago (summer 2016). There are many things wrong with that building, the cooling of the ice itself wasn't one of them in recent years compared with other area rinks, allowing for the occasional soupy 95-100 degree summer day exception.

I don't know which equipment is being moved to WCC, but I've heard the same thing about it happening.

I played the next-to-last game at RCI on 3/15 on the last day before adult leagues were suspended. Been skating beer league there weekly since 2004 except for a couple interruptions due to renovations.... will kinda miss the old dump. Looking forward to the new barn though.
Yeah ... ice making and maintenance equipment isn't all that sophisticated. The controls involved are another issue. So long as that stuff is in good working order and they have quality people doing the work, it shouldn't be a problem to re-use that equipment.

I'm a bit concerned about the limitations on deals that having a suspended season hanging over these proceedings will have, but otherwise ... whatever. Draft 'em up if you feel like you have to. You can obviously do that without putting a ton of people in some sort of health risk.

Sounds like the teams involved in trades that included conditions based on games played and playoff positions will be given a chance to rework those conditions or push things forward to next year if needed. The Canes were involved in two...the Brady Skjei trade with the Rangers means the Rags get the later of the two first round picks (21st overall/from Toronto) and the Sami Vatanen deal with New Jersey involving the conditional 3rd or 4th round pick based on games played.

Hmmm. How would that work?

Us: “Hi Mr. Satan, We would like to rework our deal with your organization vis-à-vis Sami Vantanen.”

Lucifer: “Um, not unless my home freezes over!”

Speaking of Sami V, has there been any update on the dude. Could have had a total leg replacement by now but maybe I’ve missed an update on him?

I think he buggered off back to Finland and nobody's really kept up with him that I can find. It's not like he was every really a part of the team per se. One assumes he'd be healthy if they re-start at some point, but Dougie probably would be available by then too.

Tarik El-Bashir, who covers the Caps for The Athletic, tweeted that the Caps will terminate Brendan Leipsic’s contract today. If you haven’t kept up with the reasons why over the last few days, Google it. He was playing on a 1 year/$700l contract and would have been a RFA with arbitration rights.

Additionally, the University of Manitoba kicked his brother off the hockey team.

Yeah ... fun guy. See ya, chump.

Took them 2 months to shut down a minor league? Did they think that anyone thought it was going to start back?

If the season resumes some checkers will be called up, especially a goalie. I believe there are no NHL roster limits after the trade deadline.
