2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

That was a helluva gut check win tonight. Good for them and I hope they can close it out in the next game.

Khudobin made 32 saves, Jamie Benn scored the winner with less than a minute to go in the 2nd and Dallas can put Vegas out of their misery on Monday night.
Dobby was fantastic and Dallas did a good job cleaning up rebounds for him. Vegas .... ugh. All the pressure in the world, but they are getting so frustrated with their inability to finish that it's getting difficult to watch.

So, about this Tampa professional hockey club. Are they Tampa Bay : Lightning or Tampa : Bay Lightning? I mean, I don't know what bay lightning could be other than bolts of lightning hitting bay waters, but it sure sounds a heckuva lot more awesome than plain ol' lightning. Think about it...they do play in the city of Tampa after all and remember, we've already established that bay lightning is cooler than regular lightning.

Tampa Bay .... an area on the Gold Coast of Florida including Tampa, St Petersburg and the surrounding area?

Carolina ... both North and South Carolina?

Stones, glass houses, you know the rest.

Either way ... the Ning went up 3-1 over the Islanders after yesterday's emphatic win. Both series are poised to be over quickly, but I would guess that at least one of them will end up going longer than 5 games ... maybe both.

Calgary Captain Mark Giordano wins the Mark Messier Leadership Award, for whatever that’s worth.

Unless NBC is moving Doc Emrick to the bubble, John Forslund is the only play by play announcer in Edmonton. I saw a blurb on The Athletic that Kenny Albert is quarantining at home in anticipation of resuming his NFL broadcasting duties next weekend.

The Flames removed the interim tag from coach Geoff Ward. He was 25-15-3, 4th best in the Western Conference after replacing Kinetico Bill.

I thought Doc had opted out of entering the bubble previously. Unless he changes his mind, that probably means Johnny Sideburns will get to call the Finals. If so, good for him. Love that dude.

I mean, fair enough. He never did find the key to unlock that first line, yet he still managed to get their engines going after they flopped around for the first 25 games or so under the Water Boy.

Call it a familiarity bias or whatever you want, I enjoy John Forslund's call more than the rest of them. I'm happy to see he has landed the position he deserves. I suspect it's extremely unlikely we'll get to hear him call many Hurricanes games anymore...unless they make a deep run at the Cup again.

Another date to keep in mind...qualifying offers must be submitted to restricted Free agents by 5 pm on October 7. Players not offered a QO become unrestricted free agents at noon on October 9. The QO expires at 5 pm on October 18.

At 3:36 of OT, Denis Gurianov sends Dallas to the Finals. Stars fought back from a 3rd period 2-0 deficit with goals goals from Benn and a PP goal from Kiviranta at 16:13 to tie it.

The Stars hasn’t been to the Finals since back to back appearances in 1999, winning the Cup over Buffalo and a 2000 game 6 OT loss to the Devils.

Dreger says the Caps have hired Peter Laviolette as coach and given him a 3 year contract. LeBrun says he’s been told it’s north of $4 million per year. He also says the Caps are picking up the remaining year of Lavi’s contract with Nashville at $2.5 million.

Edit: LeBrun says the deal is just under $15 million, so high $4’s per year. For that money, they could have kept Trotz.

I know we’re not looking for defense but appears that the senators are parting with Borowiecki. Would love someone like that guy. Decent in his own end, hard nosed, and willing to stick up for his guys without being a goon.
