2019 NHL Off Season News Thread

The Pens will have to pay a price to move that Jack Johnson contract either by retaining a huge chunk of it or taking on another bad deal. He is barely a capable 3rd pair guy now.

Josh Yohe who covers the Pens for The Athletic tweeted yesterday that Jack Johnson would likely be traded in the next 48 hours. That was 24 hours ago. He has 4 years left on a 5 year/$16.25 million deal he signed last year and has a $4 million actual this year. Rurtherford chased him for years and has buyers remorse in 14 months.

Good luck with that. Probably more likely JR up to his old tricks again trying to 'create' interest in an otherwise dead market. Saying things are heating up, stating he's been getting calls, had an offer.... we know his tricks. So yeah, maybe JJ will get dealt =D

I'm impressed that you know the french word for underpants. Or did you google it? ;)
I took French throughout my formative years, having been raised in New Orleans. I don't remember much, but there are some odd things I do. I also spend two weeks each summer on a small island in the Ottawa River in Quebec. Thus, I do rely on google, but not in the case of Capitaine Slip.

For a team with cap space and willing to fill a roster spot, I think both Josh Ho-Sang and Daniel Sprong have enough upside to take a chance on via the waiver wire. I expect both of those two to get picked up.

The NHL has entered into a 2 year, cross platform agreement with Green Day. They’ll provide the new theme song for Wednesday Night Hockey on NBCSN and will perform at the 2020 All-Star Game. Additionally, songs form their new album will be used in NHL game highlights and in-arena Jumbotron footage provided by the League.

They've got to cut payroll and that guy makes $3.6 million for his 30-ish point contribution.

I wonder if they tried to trade him. I guess it amounts to the same result, who'd pick him up at that salary, even if there's potential > when he hasn't really earned it production wise.

James ... apparently they've been trying to trade him all summer. $3.6 mil for a third liner who doesn't do anything on special teams is just too much. Baertschi has a lot of talent, but he's just never produced. They bet on him having a breakout that never came. It happens.
