2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

After winning the National Championship, Michigan head coach Dusty May is headed to the Dallas Mavricks.

The last 3 coaches to leave college for the pros have left Michigan. Jim Harbaugh to the NFL, John Beilein to the Cavs in 2019 and now May.
 
Wild … May went straight into coaching after being a student manager under Bob Knight at Indiana. If there was ever a coach I’d have thought would be a college lifer, it’s that guy.

I think May is going to fall into the category of really good college coaches to fail miserably in the NBA. I just don't see him being a great NBA coach. There is a reason the overwhelming majority of college coaches that make that jump do not succeed. Sure their are outliers, but for the most part it doesn't work. The college game is more and more like the NBA than in decades past, but it is still vastly different. We'll see
 
Hard to say, really. He’s a technician, and those guys are the ones that are more likely to make the jump than the program icon types. I see him more like a Brad Stevens type than a Billy Donovan. Stevens did fine in the NBA before he got sick of the bench and went to the front office.

Sorry, but Stevens is 10 times the coach that Dusty May is. When they were trying to link him to UNC I was glad that it didn't pan out. We have heard some things in the media that were red flags. Let's see how he handles NBA players. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, but I don't have much confidence based on what I know. But, I am wrong a lot, just ask my wife
 
You missed the word type. And he IS a Stevens-type college coach. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results, but you have to allow room for comparisons without equivalence. Otherwise nobody has any frame of reference. I’m just raising the possibility that it might actually work … not predicting that it will.
 
I don’t really watch ESPN unless I have to, but has Linda Cohn actually been on the air much in recent years? I thought she had already retired.
 
Winner take all tonight in the CWS....Oklahoma looked great in Game 1, UNC looked great in Game 2 - that freshman pitcher they have, Glauber, is utterly ridiculous. He is like 17 and supposed to be in high school still. Should be a good one tonight if you are a college baseball fan

Also, y’all be good to each other. I’m in the middle of helping to plan funerals for two of my uncles. THAT sucks and tomorrow isn’t a given for any of us.
