2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Ha! Friend of mine caught some bum walking out with his clothes there one day in the 80s and had to chase him down.
Left some quarters at that place also.
Pretty sure that's the place I found some green stuff in my laundry one day and figured I just washed a couple quarter ounces.
Don't even remember the parking deck.
Had my knee bent the wrong way at the Underground at the 999 show. It's f'd to this day. Damned 19 years old thinking it'll mend all by itself. Nope.
A couple buddies and I used to drink quarts of beer at that laundromat waiting on clothes. One evening on a dare I did a dryer ride, with the heat turned all the way down, the door open, & my buddy holding the switch down. Sitting cross-legged with my back against the drum & elbows propped against the fins, going round & round. Somebody took exception and we got the boot. It was fun while it lasted.

Cameron Village Subway was so much fun and too many great bands came through that hole in the ground. It was definitely a different time and way too long ago. It was easy staggering distance from a P.R. warm up as well.

Kerr Drugs downstairs had the nicest supply of fishing tackle that side of Raleigh too. Thorne's on South St and Hill's were the only other shops close.

That place deserves a better name & logo, no matter what it was turned into.

Had a great camera shop in CV also. Took 3 photography classes at SoD and spent lot$ there. Sam Bass, I think.
^ REM is the most boring band I've ever seen. Saw them open for the English Beat at Duke same time frame.

I used to go to Monday's on Hillsborough St. to catch live music and tip a few back in the day as well. It later became Barry's (no live music). The Silver Bullet Saloon (now Charlie Goodnight's) opened around the time the Village Subway shut down. I had friends in bands that played there often. It was a jumping spot. I used to shoot pool & drink $0.25 drafts at Bourbon Street right around the corner about the same time frame, then get grub on at Sadlack's or P.R..

Where does time go?

Ah, good ol' Sad Pants (Sadlacks > Sadslacks > Sand Pants...sorry) Light up a smoke and instantly have a couple dudes just out of the joint asking for a spare one. I really miss that place.

Me and a roommate used to spend just about every late afternoon/early evening at Bourbon Street for the free pool and then head over to the Stingray to dominate a table there. We would get used to the 8' table at Bourbon Street and then kill everyone on the 6' table at the Stingray.

My now wife and I started our first date at the Rathskeller in Raleigh and god only knows what it is now. Sad to see Raleigh lose its soul, one grimy joint at a time. That's the price of getting old, tho

rain so we skipped williamsburg. Did the bridge/tunnel and did not see a lot due to the rain. Did see whales on Saturday , first time for me. You only see part of their back and a tail a few times. a few people got seasick but not me

Those were usually the guys in the kitchen. Pretty sure they had two employment pools at Sadlacks ... those flophouses over on the sad part of Boylan Ave and Central Prison on release day

I spent a lot of nights in the Underground enjoying the music and trying to ignore the falling chunks of asbestos insulation. Too many to remember all that clearly, but maybe the most fun was the night when two really good regional/local bands swapped stages and played each other's sets. We kept running back and forth across the hall to enjoy Arrogance playing the Fabulous Knobs' set and vice versa.

Couple friends and I lived around the corner from Bourbon St. on Park Ave. next to the F Head's house. We'd go get beers to go.
Ate often at Jade Garden when William ran it. Dude would treat us really well. Liked to bring fireworks and set them off at our table.
Called the Rathskeller the Ratkiller.
Have not thought of the Stingray is forever.
Sadlacks...well damn. Would walk there for lunch from Brooks and hang w/ my deadhead friends often.
Miss the dirt ball places.

I think the Rathskeller closed because they got a C health rating and did not want to fix all the problems. Went to McDs that had a C and I quickly left but many people did not seem to care. I think if you have a C you have to fix things real fast or they shut you down.

Found out after the semester was over that my chem lab partner was an entertainer there. 🥲
I keep waiting for a shoutout for “the keg”. Made a few trips down 54 from chapel hill to see the best biker chicks in town.
I recall being at one of those places for a partner’s bachelor party. Some short, not quite toothless skank kept trying to entertain. And a local judge holding bills in his hair like antennas for the entertainers. He ended up run off the bench for wizzing in public somewhere.
Those were the days my friend...

Amen, kids these days don’t know what good entertainment is. Lol

I knew/know the owners of My Apartment and the Keg & was gifted lifetime memberships to each. I spent some quality time at both places and almost had too much fun (can't be discussed here) if that's possible. Some of the after hours parties were absolutely epic.

Also used to hang at Big Bad Wolf next to the Keg. We had some major parking lot cookouts behind that building and some serious cutthroat games of pool. Mercy.

Also thought about Alligator Alley & how full that place would get when the bars closed down. The people watching was top shelf.

Alligator was across from the bell tower, right? Same building as the plasma center? Was an all night breakfast place before that IIRC Can’t remember it’s name but ate there a bunch being close to Brooks Hall.

Yeah ... Alligator Alley was a 24 hour breakfast joint at that stage of its lifespan. I spent a lot of groggy mornings in there, and more than a few 2am feedings as well.
