2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Pulling for.... apparently the jerkrods? I play in an NL Rotisserie league so I just know the NL better.

I root for the Bulls when I go to DBAP but I couldn't tell you at all which Rays played in Durham.

Starting early next year (likely January) Youtube Premium subscribers will get free access to the ad-supported Peacock content.

"The upcoming bundle - which will go live early next year - will give US-based YouTube Premium members access to Peacock’s ad-supported plan alongside the existing Premium features they already pay for, including ad-free YouTube viewing, background playback, offline downloads, and YouTube Music."

Well, YouTube Premium runs like $15 a month while Peacock with ads runs around $13 a month. Nice for people who are paying for both, presuming they exist. Otherwise, meh.

Pete Thamel, who is a college football writer for ESPN said to expect Philip Rivers’ name to come up. He interviewed for the Buffalo Bills job last summer and his son has already committed to State in the class of 2027.

That would be a huge mistake in my opinion. He’s only coached high school at a small Catholic private school in Alabama. He’s had a couple good years but that’s about it. But everyone’s enamored with the name even of he has no real meaningful coaching experience.

The buttons to post photos/attachments/links and fonts are grayed out. Did I accidentally click somewhere to disable them or is it broken for everyone? I looked in my profile and elsewhere and didn’t see a setting that was shut off. Thanks

Not everyone. Just a particularly loud section of State's fan base. We'll see what the serious money guys feel like paying for, and see if there's more structural changes to come. Corrigan may have written that letter firing Doeren but it's not a given that he would have acted without prompting. It's also not a given that more changes are coming, but Corrigan is losing the money generating race to schools with WAY less resources and doesn't seem to even think it's a problem. A lot depends on how engaged the Chancellor feels like getting, but this is not Randy Woodson who wasn't really bothered with athletics so long as they weren't an embarrassment and a drag on other programs. Howell ain't that detached. There was a lot of friction between the Admin and Athletics over the Wade debacle last spring. That hasn't gone away in the meantime and probably has gotten worse.

If they do end up doing the big dumb thing, then Rivers at least fires up the grass roots enough to goose small dollar donations in the short term. But if State goes that way, they're putting a bandaid on a wound that needs stitches. Honestly, if they just let Corrigan hire from the traditional list of candidates without changing the financial structures, they're probably doing a less desperate version of the same thing.

Also, I've heard a few semi-rational people suggesting that Rivers might be a good fit for the GM position, like what Luck is doing at Stanford. Sounds far-fetched but I'm certain they'll at least consult with Rivers since his son is State's highest profile recruit in a hot minute.
