Lucas Mercuri supposedly committed to UMASS for 2020:

The NHL Network folks claimed he is going to Vermont. He is not on either roster. I'll assume he ends up playing a full season at Des Moines of the USHL this coming season until we hear otherwise.

---edit Elite Prospects has Mercuri playing this coming season for Des Moines and then heading to UMASS in 2021-22---

Canes 7th pick, 7th round, #199 overall:

Alexander PashinRRUS5' 8"154RUSSIA-JR.UFA 2

"NHL Central Scouting: "Explosive speedster with offensive instincts. Smallish finesse player who creates scoring chances with speed, surprising moves and great stickhandling."
"

5'8" 154 !!! He'd be small on a lot of Bantam teams.

Canes 8th and final pick is in... here's the final tally:

Ponomarev being called the little beer fridge already must have the Canes marketing team dreaming up a T-shirt idea! I don’t know what I would do without my little beer fridge in the garage...it’s a personal treasure.

Corey Pronman gives the Canes a B+

Pronman with the B+, Scott Wheeler with the "Winner" designation ... top of the list, too. Any way you slice it, the Canes seem to have had another strong draft effort. You can pick nits with the organizational preferences and tendencies, but at least the Canes have those things now. There's a plan and they make picks according to the plan. What a concept.

When the European guys, it always comes down to “when will we see him in North America”? The Finns and Russians from last year, Sellgren, etc.
True, but one thing to keep in mind that matters to the Hurricanes now that they're in serious budget mode ... you don't have to spend money on development for guys who stick in Europe. You lose control over the process, but if you're willing to leave them alone until they're done in the oven you can shave some costs that way. Especially if you partner with affiliates willing to spend money on roster players.

True. But a deep pipeline doesn’t help if the players are still on European contracts or in college. In the days of budget mode, having a ready supply of prospects to fill the NHL roster at NHL minimums helps keep costs down. And for all the great drafting over the last few years, we’re still several years away from it bearing fruit here or in Chicago. We’ll see Suzuki, Rees and Murray next year, but there are 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores with the other 5 in Europe.

Part of being such a recently competitive young team is gaps in your prospect pool not already in the NHL. Keep drafting well and that should even out over time.

That's the thing. We're only in the third off season of current development system and the shift in models takes time.

An article on The Athletic on Seth Jarvis’ draft day experience. By now, we’ve probably seen the image of the locker with his name on it. But the Canes also created personal videos for each player they drafted, narrated in English and Russian by Svech, and sent them out as a keepsake.
