2021 Draft Thread

I was tempted to make a joke about Jack Todd and drafts but it was shooting fish in a barrel. Besides and as you point out, he wasn't a draft dodger. He deserted and for good reason. And unlike Trump with his bone spurs, Todd's knees were actually shot. He joined the Marines in 1965 or 66 and got washed out as 4-F because of his knees. Then 4 or 5 years later the Army reclassified him as 1-A and sent him a draft notice because they needed more cannon fodder for Vietnam.

Agreed with the last part, a lot of these people live in glass houses. The majority of people suck and have not been able to change my mind in decades.

Hence my charming disposition.

I've asked more than a few members of the woke internet outrage mob what more they want from this kid. He was charged, he pled guilty, he apologized and volunteered to recuse himself from the draft. He has been punished to the full extent of the law given the misdemeanor nature of his offense. So aside from requiring him to invent a time machine and go back to undo what's been done, when will this mob decide that he's been punished enough? Does he have to wear a hair shirt and flagellate himself to satisfy the lust for revenge? It seems to me that the thing these people are most upset about is the fact that they don't think the kid has been made to suffer to a degree more to their liking.

A few random comments on the draft pick

- it was a stupid pick
- if you are going to make a stand on something - get rid of the french requirement
- my solution / hope was that nobody drafted him and that he did the right steps this year to prove he is a better human and then he can get drafted next year
- also the NHL should have a way to make this impossible - he took himself out and the league should have not made it possible to draft him

- i find that everybody is talking about this and not the hawks - so weird that the media covered up the hawks stuff but is all over this
- very few people seem to know what the actual crime was - i have heard everything from rape to child porn
- this will eventually blow over like it did with matthews, kane, kassian, mactavish, lafluer (for various crimes) but i will never be happy about it
 
I didn't care for the pick, because I thought there were other guys we should have taken in the spot. Nothing to do with the issue at hand. If it turns out it was a worthwhile hockey pick, great.

Meanwhile, I'll note the two guys I wanted (and about whom I really know nothing) and bring it up ad nauseum if they turn out better. Just like Habsy, I, and about a half dozen others do by bringing up our choice of Kreider over Leblanc. Its kind of sad when we know more than management just by reading a few notes and with limited if any viewings. And it happens far too often.

I keep notes on this stuff for about a half dozen years.
 
I would say we're better in the first round than the Habs have been under Bergevin. The later rounds they're pretty good at.

No, he doesn’t but you never know for certain at the time that you draft. Everything I’ve heard since the pick was made is that he’s a top 15-20 player in this draft. We’ll find out in a few years.

Plus you have no way of knowing if one of the 150 guys drafted afterwards is a sleeper. I dislike statements like that.
