2021 Hurricanes Miscellaneous Thread

Wondering if you couldn't get a RD for the rights to Lafontain? Especially if it seems like he's going to be tough to sign. I mean, you wouldn't get a top 4 guy, but maybe a depth RD that's better than the current Taxi Squad options? Just wondering out loud.
The problem is much deeper than a depth RD, IMO. Joey Keane is the only RD in the system, taxi squad or Wolves.

Pierre LeBrun and Thomas Drance from The Athletic solicited some GMs for trade ideas. The one idea they came up with for the Canes was Geekie and Bean to the Jets for Adam Lowry and Dylan Samberg, a left shooting dman in the first year of his ELC. LeBrun says this is a Carolina heavy trade, Drance says the opposite. Lowry is a UFA to be, so we’d essentially be trading 2 prospects for 1. No thanks.

I don't consider LaFontaine a good prospect yet. Kuokkanen and a 2nd was steep. I don't want us trading Rees and a 2nd or Drury and a 2nd for Vatanen again

I don't expect we would have last year if not for the injured. But I agree

Every game lately that I watch Ned do his thing the less I am starting to worry about the next 2, 3, 4 years in net for the Canes.

From N&O

Hradek said his understanding was the Canes were close to making a deal to obtain goalie Henrik Lundqvist from the Rangers last year at the deadline, before the league shut down during the pandemic.

You missed the biggest part of the article. They had internal discussions about Slava Voynov to fill the need for a right shot dman and consulted Justin Williams, who played with him in LA. Ultimately, they passed.

Yeesh ... thank you, Justin Williams. No way I want that creep on my team.

On Trocheck, the way we are continuing to roll without him would have me allowing him however long is needed for him to be back to as close to 100% as he can get. Until he reaches that point we can afford it appears to have him out of the lineup.

On Mrazek, at some point we definitely want to get him into a game because he hasn't actually seen live game action in a very long time. But again, we can afford to be sure he is all the way back.

I spy a trip to Chicago and some home games with Detroit coming up on the schedule. Just sayin

I'm not sure who to credit this to but I thought it was funny (and thought inspiring as to what the lineups are going to look like if/when Trocheck and Turbo return)FB_IMG_1617032807302.jpg

If you are planning to buy individual seats (pods) for any of the April or May games (which are now on sale for STMs only), be aware they jacked up the prices from March (even for STMs). $166.24 for sideline, $144.79 for 200 level corners, $123.21 for section 123, and still $85.80 for upper end zone.

Those prices include parking of course, but they also include a scoreboard that still does not show the score, time, or penalties as it used to. You have to find those on the endzone scoreboards OR on the TV video feed they do show on the scoreboard in the upper left land corner as if you were watching TV. And the food options remain pre-packaged sandwiches and stuff from the C-Store only (at least as of last Saturday). All they did for the 'bigger' crowd is open up more stands serving the same exact pre-packed stuff.

I'm saving money by not buying food at the arena, but I miss being able to buy a hot dog, or pretzel, or ANYTHING WARM to eat if I didn't get a chance to eat before the game. Maybe that changes this coming weekend?

The thing about Turbo is he can play with freaking anybody. He'd be as good a compliment to Trochek as he is to Aho (myths of Finnish telepathy aside) and he coupld also slide seamlessly onto a line with Svech and Staal if you wanted. For right now, I'm liking how playing with Aho fits with Necas' strengths and offsets his weaknesses. I don't bother with that stuff when it comes to Turbo. He's pure plug and play when he's ready to roll.

Let's not trade a good prospect and a 2nd for Vatanen again please. That was a bit much to give up.
Yeah but we'd already made a trade for Vatanen and then let him walk. KNOWING they were gonna be a tad short at RD. Sami is not Pesce but was still a pretty decent RD and better than TVR. Doesn't seem like good asset management to me. So now they want to make another trade for an RD - giving up more assets maybe even a goalie. I don't unnerstan' all I kno' 'bout this.

Well needing 4 and 24 to get ice time was an issue this off-season so you needed slots. Now you’re going to lose someone to the Crackers so maybe that plays into it. Rejigger your D mix. So Fleury for a RD for now and a pick or younger prospect perhaps.

I don’t see us trading a d being likely to make us better.
