2021 Hurricanes Miscellaneous Thread

Got the email. It looks like they’ll take the entire amount for tickets out of what is on account.

Pricing:

Season Ticket Member Pricing (20 Games)
All pricing includes parking, as well as all taxes and fees.

Lower Level Priority Lounge: $2,681.20 Per Seat ($134.06 Per Ticket)

Lower Level End Zones: $1,823.20 Per Seat ($91.16 Per Ticket)

Club Level: $2,252.20 Per Seat ($112.61 Per Ticket)

Upper Level Sidelines: $1,287 Per Seat ($64.35 Per Ticket)
 
I’m not going anywhere near games—or really anywhere indoors with anyone outside of my household unless absolutely necessary—until my wife and I are vaccinated. She’s group 5 and I’m group 4, so I’m just hoping we get a chance to see some playoff hockey in-person.

It’s not that bad, with exceptions. Lower level end zones and upper level sidelines are fairly priced, compared to the 21-22 STM pricing and adding in parking and tax.

But the Priority Lounge and Club seats are overpriced, depending on the section. The 3 center ice sections downstairs are pretty close. But when you moved to the 2 sections on either side, it’s overpriced. Same with Club, the one center ice section is reasonable, the rest aren’t.
 
Depends on where in the lower level end zones you are. My per game per tix with parking and tax is $65.42 for upper part of section 112. $91.16 is almost a 40% mark-up (if they put us in our same section in the same seating area).

I mean, I get it, they have to spend a lot of additional money to have the building open and want to cover costs when they are only going to have under 3k in the building and try to squeeze SOME sort of revenue out of it. I'm not complaining as much as I'm wondering if they should have stated 'at a STM discounted price' as if those prices are anything like what STMs usually expect their 'discounted price' to be.

I'm fully vaccinated but my normal season seats are in the upper deck corners, so all of these prices are higher than what I normally pay. Sure, they're a better location, but I don't know that I want to pay more for this setup. I get that they have costs/security that needs to be managed, but I may just wait until next season.
 
It will interesting to see what is 'left' when they open up individual game sales to STMs next Monday (March 1) at noon. Even though the majority here seems to not be interested, especially in the full 20 game packages, I'm wondering how many people will jump at this offer and how many individual games tickets that will leave. I'm also interested to see what the secondary market will end up being for tickets that STMs put out there for sale. I've seen what things look like on Ticketmaster for Dallas Stars game and the resale prices are pretty darn high.

I thought I saw a blurb from Waddell that they needed about 75% of the normal game day staff. That seems high, for 15% capacity and reduced concessions, but I certainly won’t begrudge any arena employees getting paid.

My seats are in 122, in the Pure Hockey section, so I only pay $50 with no benefits, aside from the F&B discount. So I knew I was going to get whacked with a premium. The regular price in that section is $78 and it includes parking. Now, the entire priority lounge is $134. If your tickets are in the one dead center lower level section, that price is pretty close to the 21-22 STM price of $122 with parking but without tax. The 2 flanking sections are $116 with parking, so that’s close-ish too. But the 2 sections on the ends? Nope, they’re $97 and $78. Any other priority lounge ticket will be a premium over the STM price.

We could move upstairs and that would save us money compared to our lower level seats. But after 15 years of being spoiled in the mezzanine, I don’t know if we want to roll the dice and take a chance of being seated in the outer reaches. So we’ll probably opt for single game notifications and see what happens. And also see if the expected approval of the J&J vaccine tomorrow accelerates the vaccination schedule.
 
In case you missed it, LeBrun’s column yesterday had a blurb about the ongoing negotiations for Brind’Amour’s contract extension. In October, Dundon told LeBrun that RBA would be there for a long time. On Wednesday, he told LeBrun by text “No change. He will be here,”. He doesn’t think that RBA is trying to break the bank, and we don’t know what he makes now, the CapFriendly coaches salary section lists it as “Unknown”. He thinks RBA could live with a contract that starts with a 2 (and has 6 numbers after it, smart guys). He ends the section thusly: “Dundon hasn’t been flush when it comes to his front office. But I think the Hurricanes get it done. Let’s put it this way: They better.”

Brindy hasn't helped his negotiation position by stating numerous times that he is not sure he would want to be the head coach anywhere but here.
This really has to get done and it shouldn't be that hard to get done. The whole culture changed when Brindy became coach, and its been a winning culture.

LeBrun mentioned that he has former teammates as GMs in Buffalo and Seattle, one looking for a coach and one who probably will be. But he noted exactly what you said, that he can’t see himself coaching anywhere but here. Unless it‘s his kids’ Jr. Hurricanes team, of course.
 
We gave up season tickets around 2012 or 2013 and have just been going on an ad hoc basis since. Can't see seats going to the general public, so we'll just wait until things are fully open.

I'd wager there will be very little availability for the general public ... if any. There's a LOT of people who will jump at the chance to get out and do anything that feels like normal times at this point, whether it makes sense in the big picture or not. It doesn't take a ton of that stuff to get you to 15% capacity.
 
2800 in that place may give off ol' Greensboro vibes, but after the past year it would feel like Food Lion Canned Food Drive day at the NC State Fair... honestly gives me the willies... We're probably a "pass" at this point, and my halfsies ticket partner feels the same, so that's 2 seats unclaimed. We'll hate it when we win the C*p and we're still at 15% (or worse) and we're not there, but...
 
What about scalpers with such a limited supply? Not playing NYR,Pitt,Wash,Philly means less demand so maybe scalping might not be bad . Of course those teams could be here come playoff time.

In order to ensure separation, since you wouldn't want to allow two unconnected individuals sitting in a two seat pod, I'd think they'll restrict re-sale to the official ticket merchant exchange.
 
Le Brun's blurb on Brindy in The Athletic seemed to mention a number in the two's in terms of millions per year for Brindy on an extension here. I was shocked at a few of the coaches making $4 to $5 million...especially based on results! Brindy at $2.5 million per on a 3 year extension seems fair.
 
So the Canes did add a player to the taxi squad yesterday after moving Ned, Bean and Lorentz to the NHL roster. But it wasn't Helvig, it was David Gust.

Not sure what the plan is but they won't be able to return all of Lorentz, Ned and Bean back to the taxi squad tomorrow without sending someone on the taxi squad to Chicago. Note that Lorentz is playing his 9th game tonight, so one more would require him to clear waivers again to get back to the taxi squad. So that might be factoring in tho these moves, Canes maybe don't want to have to pass Lorentz through waivers again and therefore have an extra Taxi Squad spot with Lorentz staying on the NHL roster going forward

We will see that the Canes do tomorrow, but to answer our earlier question, yes, Mrazek is the current #3 goalie.

Look ... coaches get paid based on PAST results, not current results. That's the way it's been since the beginning of professional sports. Brind'Amour might be a better coach than a handful of guys making twice as much money, but coaches contracts are a resume business. And his is relatively short. 2-3 years at $2.5 mil would be a monster raise for the guy.
