2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Dronov is playing in the Prospects Tournament. To be honest, I didn’t notice him one way or the other today.
I didn't even notice his name on the roster, so .... there's that. Obviously my plans to get to some prospects games went up in smoke anyway.

Flyers signed Antoine Roussel and Artem Anisimov to PTOs. Roussel played in Arizona, Anisimov played in Russia last year.

He only played 6 regular season games for Magnitogorsk but played 24 playoff games and had 5 goals, 9 assists.

The Crossing Broad blog says that Sean Courturier will miss significant time with another back injury, a herniated disc suffered during strength and conditioning drills last week. He only played 29 games last year and had back surgery in February. It’s no known whether the 2 injuries are related. He signed a 8 year/$62 million extension last August.

Keith Yandle announced his retirement. He’s been mailing it in for a few years now, so it’s not a surprise, once his ironman streak ended. He managed to “lead” the league with a stunning -47 last year, in only 14 minutes of ice time per game. That was 10 more than Seth Jones and 14 more than the next worst Flyer. That’s also the worst this century, breaking Rico Fata’s -46 from 2003-04.

Two more retirements announced today, one expected, one a bit surprising.

Zdeno Chara will sign a 1 day contract with the Bruins and call it a career.

PK Subban announced on Instagram that he’s also retiring.

Yandle was only in it for the Ironman streak so that makes sense. He retired on the ice back in 2020. The other two had dropped so far below their own standards that it's a kindness for them to retire. I never liked Chara or Subban so it was annoying to feel sorry for them ... and they were both fairly pitiful last season.

Subban already was on track to land analyst gigs, so that likely made his decision to retire a bit more palatable.

We are going to see him plenty on TV.

Blues announce that Marco Scandella is out at least 6 months with a hip injury suffered during training.

Avs sign MacKinnon to an 8 year/$100.8 million extension that starts next season. That’s a $12.6 million AAV. Most of it is in signing bonus, $85.34 million signing bonus, $15.46 million in salary. He gets $46.7 million in signing bonuses over the first 3 years. Only in the 4th year is the salary more than $1 million, it’s the only year the salary bonus/salary are flipped, with a $3 million SB and $9.15 million in salary.

Yeah, that is big number, but just wait until its Auston Matthews' turn.

True. I figure a good million a year of MacKinnon's deal is makeup pay for his current, criminally cheap deal. $6.3 AAV for arguably the 2nd or 3rd best player in the sport is just ... woof.

This is an interesting twist...

I guess, but you won't be able to see anything. Then again, you can't see much of anything in the infield of an auto race either. So ...
