2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Ron Francis signs another of his former draftees, signing goalie Callum Booth to a PTO. Francis drafted him in the 2015 4th round. He’s played mostly in the ECHL since turning pro, playing 15 games across 3 seasons with the Checkers and 2 games in 2 season for the P-Bruins. He’s never played more than 28 games in a season and that was his first year for the Everblades.

Bruins signed dman Anton Stralman to a PTO. He played 74 games for Arizona last year and had 8 goals/15 assists. He finished a 3 year/$16.5 million contract that he signed with the Panthers.

Ron Francis, ladies and gentlemen. Still scratching that itch to sign crap goalies and/or players he's had in his organizations before. Did Rutherford just train him or somehow find a way to alter his DNA?

Stralman is also somehow 36 years old and has mysteriously managed to play 930 NHL games without actually being anything more than vaguely competent. Amazing, amazing career.

The NHL is returning to Europe this year with games between the Preds and Sharks in Czechia and the Avs and Jackets in Finland. The Czech government won’t issue work visas to any Russians. That affects Yakov Trencin from the Preds and Evgeny Svechnikov and Alexander Barabanov from the Sharks. Negotiations between the league and Czech government are ongoing. The Finnish government‘s position is unclear.
The NHL teams should simply say "no thanks, we won't come without our Russian players". Those players have done nothing wrong and owe the Czechs nothing.

Panthers sign goalie Spencer Knight to a 3 year/$13.5 million extension. He’s headed into the last year of his entry contract. His contract and Bob’s both expire after the 2025-26 season.

Leafs finally sign dman Rasmus Sandin. Leafs stood firm at $1.4 million, Sandin wanted $1.6 million. So he signed a 2 year/$2.8 million deal with salaries at $1.2 and $1.6 million.

Today must have been “sign your PTO dman to a contract day”. The Ducks signed Nathan Beaulieu to the same contract de Haan got, 1 year/$850k.

The Globe and Mail is reporting that Hockey Canada had a second secret slush find to pay victims of sexual abuse. It’s not listed in their balance sheet and they did not disclose its existence at the recent Parliamentary hearings.

Cory Lavalette has a Canes article in The Athletic today. The comments suggest he is replacing Sara Civ as a regular writer, but I haven't heard that announcement. Do any of you know if this is true?

To quote the immortal Lili Von Shtupp, “It’s twue.”

I use to play some roller hockey with Cory and he is a nice enough guy but I was really hoping someone like Scott Burnside would have taken over for Civ with the Athletic Canes coverage, I really like Burnside and his Canes.com articles for the team.

His Twitter bio says he lives in Atlanta. He’s probably of the age where he’s not interested in the grind of a daily article and traveling to 30+ road games.
