2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

The fallout from the Hockey Canada scandal is getting worse. Quebec Hockey withdrew from Hockey Canada and they’re suspending the $3 membership transfer and will only send fees related to insurance coverage. Sponsors are fleeing. Tim Horton’s, Scotiabank and Telus have all announced they’re not sponsoring any men’s team activity. Canadian Tire dropped a bomb today; they’re ending their relationship with Hockey Canada.
The fallout would be less severe if Hockey Canada hadn't dug in their heels and claimed not to have done anything wrong ... a story they seem to still be sticking to, by the way.

When confronted with a choice, they invariably picked the worst option.

Recipe, Swiss Chalet and The Keg have all discontinued men’s related support of Hockey Canada. At this point, the list of which companies remain is shorter.

Elliotte Friedman tweeted that he heard the Flams and MacKenzie Weegar are closing in on an 8 year extension in the $50 million range. Seravalli concurs.

From this day forward, the NHL team in Calgary will be referred to on this board as the Flams.

We needed a good replacement for all the old Cherkers references!
I hope the Flams don't get flambeed. Actually, I don't mind if they do, really.

Vancouver traded forward Jason Dickinson and a 2024 2nd rounder to Chicago for dman Riley Stillman. Both players are in the 2nd year of 3 year contracts but Dickinson’s cap hit is $1.3 million more than Stillman’s.

Only if the Flams relocate to Flin Flon.
Funny story about Flin Flon. One of my biker uncles went on a motorcycle trip up to Flin Flon from the UP of Michigan just for the hell of it. When they hit the border, the agent asked where they were headed and they said Flin Flon. The guy was incredulous! "Flin Flon! What the hell is in Flin Flon that you would want to visit there?!" It's now an inside joke for the family. They just wanted to check out a town named Flin Flon.

Ah Flin Flon, a story.
when I lived in Langdon, North Dakota, we had a town league hockey team. We had a game against supposedly the grand forks med school students. We went down and UNDS hockey coach had joined them and brought in several of the sugar kings or wheatkings, forgot which, and the clobbered us. My co-coz h was Canadian and several cousins on the bombers. They came to Winnipeg for a game and had a day or two off after and Kluzniak picked them up and a few others and off we went to the forks for a revenge match. It was a good game and we did win.
