2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

It being one random tweet from a brand new account, I'll wait to hang the guy until further investigations are done. No one deserves to be tried by the public on one accusation, no matter what he and Abby did .

I'm expecting the relationship between Cole and Abby Labar to bubble up somewhere given these sickening new accusations. Cole should be deservedly done playing NHL hockey. Given what we think we know about Cole and Labar, he is going to have a hard time convincing anyone of his innocence here. Sounds like a predator (not to fully absolve Abby who is an adult).
It already has. Someone on one of the Twitter threads accused “Emily Smith” of being Abby’s burner account. Some people suck.

Hardly random, in fact those accusations are pretty darned specific ... but yes, anonymous. Thus the investigation. And personally, I have no problem with teams suspending guys until the facts are sorted out in these types of situations.

Meanwhile ... it's NHL final roster day.
What are the biggest question marks hanging in the balance today? I know a few teams have been creatively playing the high wire cap economics with LTIR and shuffling guys to the minors on paper transactions but are there any full-time NHL guys on the bubble of being traded away besides Ethan Bear...

The Blues traded perennial 1st round disappointment Klim Kostin to the Oilers for dman Dimitri Samorukov, who has played 1 NHL game.

The Stars waived old friend Anton Khudobin. But I though he was going on LTIR?

There are 20 teams over the cap, per CapFriendly. All but Tampa and Edmonton have more than 23 players listed, so there will lots of gyrations today.

Montreal and Vegas are both over $100 million, but they have 33 and 30 players, respectively. The Habs have nearly $17 million headed to LTIR in Price and Monahan and maybe another $5.5 million from Drouin. That alone takes them under. Vegas has $7.8 million LTIR from Shea Weber as a starting point.

Being a GM in a hard cap league sounds like a cakewalk of a job. Do you even need a high school diploma to get that job? Sheesh

Kyle Dubas was nice enough to send an email to all the other 31 NHL teams telling them the Wayne Train is available with no need of anything coming back other than the friendly "future considerations"!

Just an attempt to get him on an NHL club somewhere since he's not making ours.

Sounds like we're getting under by sending Robertson down and recalling him on an emergency basis. Won't need to make any trades.

I remember the day when fans would make fun of teams who had "cap specialists" or "contracts specialists" in the front office ... like having nerds with big computers was some sort of silly thing. LOL. Nowadays, everybody's got big analytics capability. Even the teams who don't invest in advanced player analysis commit resources to figuring out how to milk every last drop out of their cap impact.

And then GMs throw it all out the window to trade for some super expensive, vaguely productive player at the trade deadline. THAT's the part smart fans should point at and laugh.

Ian Cole has an in person interview at the NHL office in New York on Wednesday, with Jared Maples, the league’s Chief Security Officer.

I'm glad I participate in this forum because otherwise I would have no freaking idea of how this stuff works. In reality, I still don't but at least I can speak with apparent authority to others on this.

Words I live by…If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS!

Seriously, this board has a pretty high hockey IQ. Which is why I stay away from the Facebook groups, except when I need a laugh.

Ray Ferraro tweeted that he’s giving up his TSN schedule for a better work/life balance. He’s staying with ESPN though.

I have no idea how those guys who do split schedules and travel that much maintain any kind of real home life. Ray's got two teenaged sons and a wife with a high pressure gig with the Canucks. Being on the road pretty much nonstop for 9 months can't be conducive to any of that.
