2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

May I have the job please? It seems the job requires someone that has the spine to fire and report to the police any and all sexual predators/kid diddlers. Seems that the previous leaders didn't understand that part of...you know...being a human being. And I wouldn't care how many times Don Cherry and the rest of the old guard call me a Greenpeace Puke because the term is actually pretty dang funny.
 
I'm pretty sure you'd actually need to be Canadian, but I'd vote for you ... if I was also Canadian.
 
I grew up not too terribly far from the Soo. That means I'm practically related to Ron Francis and the Espisito brothers. Is that close enough? Oh, and I have fished the St Mary's River that cuts the two Soos in half. Surely *that* means I'm Canadian!

Non sequitur alert, but I somehow or another have managed to collect a healthy number of clients from US Soo. Seems weird given how small that community is.

I heard rumblings that it is going to take someone as holy as Gretzky for the Canadian public to restore faith in that org in the current climate! I'm not sure who would be willing to sign up for that job right now if I'm being honest.

I mean, yes. There's more than one competent Canadian in this world, you'd think. I've never been impressed with any of Gretzky's work since he retired from playing, so I'd hope that they'll let somebody capable and serious do the heavy lifting in the short term. Then you can crown him as figurehead king. What they need now is a politician (as ugly as that is to contemplate) and not a hockey player. That's the tool box required for getting out of this volcano of crap.
 
I think she's a great suggestion.

Though I suspect her career path is leading her into a GM role somewhere one day (assistant director of player development -> senior director of player development -> assistant GM)
 
Kevyn Adams was busy this morning. He signed head coach Don Granato to a 2 year extension that kicks in for the 24-25 season. He also signed dman Matthias Samuelsson to a 7 year/$30 million extension. He’s going into the last year of his entry deal. He’s played 54 games across 2 seasons, 42 last year, and has no goals and 12 assists.
 
Granato is probably as good as anybody else he's going to find so I guess it make sense to go ahead and lock him in. I hope they're prepared to support him if things go sideways though. There's going to be pressure if he doesn't manage a serious step forward in the standings but I'm not convinced the roster is ready for that.
 
The NHL concluded its investigation into anonymous allegations against Ian Cole and found no evidence to substantiate the allegations. The matter is closed.
