2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

iAero Airways will cease operations on Saturday. That’s who the Canes use for charter services. The team has 4 days to find a new carrier, they’re on the road again on Monday.

Dom LeSpellcheck has pretty high props for the Canes in his latest Athletic model of his favored to win the Cup piece. He sends a ton of good vibes the Canes way in the article that was released this morning for those with an Athletic subscription...

So this happened 5 years ago today. After Nino’s goal, I refreshed the NHL app every 5 seconds to check on the Caps/Habs game. So I knew before it was over that we were in. And yes, tears were shed that night.

Also, take note at one of the last Devils to leave the ice,

Love seeing that clip again! The energy was awesome in the arena that night with everyone excited to be going back to the playoffs after such a long drought.

I'm actually in one of the crowd shots right after Nino scores. Good times!

Dom's is not the only model that likes the Canes in this year's playoffs. I've seen at least two others that give Carolina the best statistical shot at the Cup and all of them have them in the top 5. Of course, that counts for absolutely nothing once the games start but it at least gives some validation that we're not nuts for thinking they've got a decent chance this year.

Fun clip & great memories. I remember how electric the building was that night. I also remember how loud the barn got and how blown away the players were in the playoff run. Good times!

Spirit just postponed deliveries from Airbus and laid off 260 pilots

With iAero out of business, the Canes flew on a Delta charter today.
Those planned mergers with Frontier and then JetBlue getting scuttled have left Spirit in quite a bind. I think they've been operating on the presumption that they would eventually be rolled into another airlines' operation for more than a year now.
