2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

Will Require Ottawa Winning in Reg.. At the Rangers.. Not impossible but I wouldn't bet on it.. (I think Rangers have the tie breaker.. )

The first tiebreaker is regulation wins. So if the hurricanes win out and the Rangers lose in overtime, the hurricanes would win the tiebreaker because we would have one more regulation win them. Even if the hurricanes win both games in OT the Canes would still have 43 regulation wins while the Rangers would have 42. So, hope for any kind of Ranger loss in their last game and any kind of hurricanes win in their last 2.

The good news is we will know before our last game what is needed since the rangers play Monday and our last game is Tuesday

Rangers - 112 points, 42 RW, 1 game left
Canes - 109 points, 43 RW, 2 games left

If the Canes win tomorrow and the Rangers lose in any fashion to Ottawa on Monday, a Canes win on Tuesday gives them the division. Canes will own the RW tiebreaker, 45-42.

If all of that transpires, the Canes would also win the President‘s Trophy. Dallas has 1 game left and 111 points. But if the Canes and Stars tie at 113, the Canes own the RW tiebreaker, Dallas only has 40.

I already said that Andy. Geez 🤣

Here is a Sports Business Journal story about Tom Dundon. It might be behind a paywall, but I think everyone gets 3 freebies a month.

They beat some bad teams (Habs, Hawks, Jackets Flyers) but they did beat NY once (and lost once), and Florida.

But they shouldn't be an issue for the Canes IMHO

The bigger question is, will they try and break Turbo's arm again and sit on Jordan Staal while delivering punches to the back of his head???

Hopefully quick and methodical for the Canes and send them packing a third time...

Look, the Isles had two spurts of good results, both under Roy and both came when he threw away his rotation and rolled Barzal and Horvat out there as often as possible. In truth, Carolina has enough defensive presence up front that the matchups should favor the Canes through out the series, but the Isles have good enough goaltending to be a problem for anybody. It probably won't be a fun series, that's for sure.

The Isles are the hottest team over the last 10 games of the season, according to the "experts" on XM. Is this the matchup you wanted?

This may not be the team we wanted, but it's the team we've got, and I expect it will be a hard-fought match. Stay true to our game and we'll win, but it won't be easy. Nothing in the playoffs is easy.

They have the same record as the Canes over the last 10 if you look at actual wins and losses. So ... sure. Whatever. Obviously you'd prefer whatever dog pants over the line as WC2, but with that off the table you take who you get. Carolina's getting a better matchup than Boston or Florida, for sure. Best matchup of all the 2nd place Division finishers, for that matter.

Beats putting up with obnoxious Pens, Caps, Flyers or Red Wings fans in the arena
There was a big group of Isles fans at the back of the East 2000 lot last year and they wandered around the grassy area and saw the Stanley Cup replica one of our group made from scrap metal. Word spread to the rest of the group and they came over in droves. John Tonelli from their 1980s Cup teams was there, Carson Daly (yes, that Carson Daly) wandered over and so did Jon Ledecky. Besides being swimmer Katie Ledecky’s uncle, he’s the co-owner of the Isles. Nice folks.

Here is Steampunk Stanley. He’s been retrofitted with a tap. He is the same size as the real Cup but, where the real one weighs about 36 pounds, this one comes in at over 160.

Isles fans can be plenty obnoxious. The only question is whether or not they'll be fired up enough to spend the dosh to show up in numbers ... because there's a metric butt ton of them living here.

Wait a minute. You name drop all of those people coming by to see your Stanley replica but not one single picture? WTH man

Btw I remember you posting about this when it happened. Cool stuff

I know my friend has pictures with all of them.

None of them would touch it. I guess superstition dictates they can’t even touch a replica. I asked Tonelli why he didn’t, he won it 4 times with the Isles, that should have ended the jinx for him. He laughed and said, “well, you know…”
