2023-24 NHL Misc. Thread

I updated comment as you were typing I think ... I meant that whatever replaces it won't be as good. CapFriendly was a huge improvement over the old Cap Geek site. Maybe some cap nerd with time on his hands can make a go at the next gen.
PuckPedia is already out there, but IMO the interface isn’t as clean as CapFriendly. It has a couple of things that CapFriendly doesn’t have, notably who the player’s agent is. But you have to scroll past a lot of stuff to get to the roster.

You can definitely see why a team would want this infrastructure.

Can someone please explain it to me like I'm 5? I don't understand why a team would buy this website.

I kinda don’t get it either. Maybe they’re hiring the person who developed it to be their cap guru and part of the deal was they had to buy the site too and retire it.

My understanding is that the Caps were looking for a guy to build out the platform that CapFriendly has for their private use and decided it would be cheaper just to buy the site. Plus, since a lot of teams were apparently using the site, he gets to put a stick in the eye of his competitors ... for a minute, until they shift gears. Maybe there's some deeper meaning being obscured, but that's the surface picture.

I think that you're just scared of that shark coming your way. That being said, there are some amazing logos in there as well. The logo that is most baffling to me is the New Jersey Knights. It looks like it was probably originally a gas station chain logo. Circle K? The improvement of the Whalers logo from this original one to the whale tail really should be taught in graphic design school. Peter Good? More like Peter Incredible, am I right?

There is the so horrible and stupid that I actually like it logo from the Minnesota Fighting Saints, but there are also several middle school art projects in the original mix. The Miami franchise that moved to Philly before they even got started is particularly terrible. In fact both of those logos are dreadful. The New York Raiders logo that preceded the NJ Knights is also just ... ugh.

Hey now, don’t belittle my New York Raiders. The first live hockey game I ever saw was either the Raiders or Golden Blades, which was their name for their 2nd season. I went as part of a Boy Scout field trip.

Belittling the logo ... not the franchise, even if they did end up as the San Diego Mariners and come this close to moving to the Hollywood (FL) Sportatorium.

Foegele with a douche bag hit. You can't do that....you're inviting knuckle draggers to target your stars with moves like that.

What the Oilers need is a top notch shutdown defenseman. Trade offer: Slavin and the rights to Pesce for Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, and McDavid.
