Maybe not elite speed but Carlson is described as slow.

And do you have any info on him at centre? All I've been able to find is him as playing the wing.
 
I think people are overestiminating "speed" Sure would I rather have a fast skater, but not like anyone in the NHL not named Lucic is a bad skater in that sense. Not everyone will skate like McRegularSeason or Kerfoot. You don't want all players to be like say Shea Weber/Joel Edmundson but they all don't have to be blazers.

Lack of Speed or size only matters if your team is loaded with that one deficiency

Speed becomes an issue for only two situations:

1- Being unable to overcome it with, at minimum, above average hockey IQ.
2- On a generally slow team.

One of the things that was noticeable in the Florida-Toronto series was how much slower Toronto was compared to Florida.

Yet IMO Tkachuk seemed to have difficulty maintaining pace
 
I would argue Beliveau was as big as Lafleur and was a center

The Rocket stands on his own for speaking out and bravery.

Fortunately there won’t be a choice to make between MM vs projected top-5 C (Carlsson / Smith) when Habs walk up to the podium for 5OA selection.

Now should Habs choose not to select Michkov @ 5OA if available, that’s another matter
