Here's the thing with Mailloux:
There's real, definite upside with him. You can just tell that offensively, he's got some real talent. Is he a sure-fire 40 to 50 points if he hits his ceiling? That might be too early to tell, but there's something that we can work with.
However, he's an adventure in his own end and doesn't always have the best decision-making. How much is that lack of playing time because of Covid / suspension / injury, and how much of that is him not caring about that aspect of the game?
If his defensive play and/or overall hockey IQ doesn't improve, he's dead to rights. I doubt his offensive game will ever be elite, or at the least good enough to compensate for his defensive liabilities.
Mailloux's very much a boom or bust prospect, which is the type of prospects I would draft ten times out of ten btw, but if you're telling me I can put him in a package for a probable #1 center? Fuck it, I'm in.
