It’s interesting that no one mused about packaging Hutson with the #5 to move up.

I would try to move Hutson for a young, established NHL player like Keller.
My trade proposal earlier in this thread:

5th + Florida's 1st + one of Beck/Mailloux/Kidney/Harris/Farrell/Mesar/Dobes/Barron/Kovacevic + Gallagher (salary purposes).
Keller + Arizona's 2nd this year or the 2024 2nd round pick we sent them for Dvorak.
I'd probably be willing to give them two of those nine players, honestly.
Or, a small alternative:
5th + Lane Hutson + Gallagher (salary purposes).

So here's what I would do because who knows what Hughes will do:
First I try to jump to 3 without mortgaging the farm or draft badly.
If that's a no go I wait to see if Michkov is there at five. If he is great but if it's Smith and I'm not crazy about him, although he's a fine pick mind you, then I turn to AZ and their 6 & 12.
That's after scouring teams looking to unload young cheap talent like Dach that is, barring no availability I move to the above.

I would seriously consider Leonard instead of Smith at 5. He has that Tkatchuk vibe about him.
I realize now that initial thought above about trading with CBJ, including swapping pick 5 for pick 3, is a no go for CBJ because if we just draft Carlsson with that pick, and SJ takes Smith, they can’t get a first line center, so that trade can’t happen. They would need an enforceable agreement from us that we’re drafting Michkov. That won’t happen.

Agree about the Tkachuk vibe, not sure if I would take him over Smith though. Whomever gets Leonard will be lucky for sure. He's a player.
I doubt 'Zona does that for a chance to draft Will Smith.

I don't even think Arizona is especially interested in Smith given that they have Cooley. They might want the defenseman instead, and they won't need to trade up for him.
