I’d be tempted to trade down as well. I don’t think AZ 6-12 is realistic but DET 9-17 would be.

As a non-plugged in, non-scout, that’s my best guess too. Smith is not necessary with Dach and Suzuki there (and Beck on the 3rd line); he’s just not likely to be a significant upgrade, if at all. The Habs on the wing with Caufield, Slaf and Leonard will be hard to handle.

That's why I floated trading down weeks ago and Detroit might be the right target. Could maybe get Leonard and Sandin-Pel

Would prefer Arizona's 6 & 12 though. Much prefer.

Habs are looking to start winning in 1-2 years for playoff money. So it’s not surprising we pass on the better player for someone who can play in the short term. If we pass on Michkov for Leonard, that would be stupid as hell. Leonard doesn’t have anywhere close to the same upside.

I’d try to swap picks with Philly if we can get Hart in a deal with them. They would jump at Smith at 5.
