2023 Draft and UFA Thread

As mentioned yesterday, Colorado was never going to use those two picks in the draft. They're going to be used as collateral.

The only surprising thing is what they acquired with the second round pick. Ross Colton? ...Why?

Should replace newhooks production and they still have the first rounder

Colton's not a bad player at all and the trade seems fair for both sides. However, I don't get the fit for Colorado. He's turning 27 in September, he's an RFA and one year away from being a UFA.

His salary demands are going to be much higher than some might think. Remember, when you trade for a player and his contract's up, he's the one that has the leverage.

Wouldn't be shocked at all that they pay him $4M to $4.5M for 5-6 years.

Still waiting for him to make the Habs pay for not drafting him. He should go to Seattle, place with Wright, start a “We’re Mad The Habs Didn’t Draft Us” line.
Why do players get mad at the Habs for not drafting them but then refuse to be traded to the Habs once they're in the league?

No team is going to give you much so that they can draft Smith. The prize is Michkov, he's reached near-myhtohlogical status.

partly because the few times he's played against Bedard in international comps, Michkov has been equally dazzling and productive
