2023 Draft and UFA Thread

It’s not his fault.
It’s not the fault of the Ukrainian people that they can’t compete either. Fair is fair I don’t think as long as there’s a war going on Ukraine that this man should be allowed to play in the NHL and I want no part in drafting him nor cheering for him.

Funny but when the US was invading Iraq (WMD? Good times), Afghanistan, throwing Scuds into Syria etc i wasn't reading this from you 🤔.

I was protesting all of that stuff. I didn’t pay any attention to the attack in Syria beyond doing what we could here to bring Syrian refugees to Canada.
During the first and second invasion of Iraq I didn’t travel to America and they did everything I could to boycott American products at the time. Rather loved Kovalev it’s not the Russian thing. It’s the fact that Putin uses hockey as a major component of his propaganda machine, and the story is telling the Russian people I want to reject any opportunity he has to show Russians, doing well on a global stage unfortunately, this hockey player is a casualty of war unlike his Ukrainian brethren his children, grandmothers sister’s brothers, and all his kin are not being murdered. Seems like being asked to stay in Russia and play hockey is getting off easy when it comes to the losses this little boy will have to face

And I disappeared from here because the right wing bullshit that was going on for too long only to come back and find people swinging to the other extreme. Tell me a hypocrite all you want but I don’t want to take that kid and I don’t think that people should be getting drafted in the NHL from Russia as long as this war is going on.

None of that is Michkov's fault. The kid is 18 years old. Do you know his politics? Does an 18 year old really have any politics?

Your disdain trickle down is highly irrational and I think you know that.

The kid will play in the NHL. The Habs may pass on him or not even have a shot at him. I would not mind him on the team. You see I know a lot of Russians that DON'T like what Putin is doing and luckily had the ability to leave. It's not so cut and dry and your outlook is so myopic it creates a lot of collateral damage.

I just can't subscribe to it. Weighted more by emotion than logic. To each their own, I have plenty of my own quirks.

I’m fully aware of this

my love for the Habs is also irrational.
Human ability for irrationality is universal.
I like to park mine at hockey.
 
We’ll pass on him because of this kind of stuff and he’ll be the next Kucherov. Already broke all his records in junior but I forgot were watching CNN not TSN
 
I don't think the Habs pass if he's BPA. They weren't afraid of drafting Russians in NY. Shesterkin would look good in our crease.

One would assume Brobrov would have inside scoop on everything Michkov, but then again he recommended Kravtsov..

I’ve seen him play, last year. Kid is great. But my point remains, there is no other player in the history of the league that I would compare to Wayne and Mario.

I’m just saying you can’t use Wayne and Mario in comps. You lose credibility by doing so. This is a comment on the person making that analysis, not the player. I think he’s the second best player in the draft and who happily take him at #3. I’d take Fantilli because of position and situation but it’s not clear cut.
 
I'd like to see the data that someone used to come up with Gretzky or Mario comps. If it's just a hunch then yeah... ridiculous.
 
To be honest, I don’t know what they mean. Gretzky, Kariya, Matthews, Lemieux, Reichel. Does the order matter? Stylistically those 5 are quite different.

A Paul Kariya comparison isn't bad, actually.

But compared to Wayne/Mario, I mean... Besides Mario being 6'4", right shot and playing center, and Michkov a 5'9" / 5'10" left shot winger, they're virtually identical.
