2023 Draft and UFA Thread

If he is legit 5`10" needs to be in that 175 pond range to hit the NHL

Elite IQ , wheels are not Hughes but I dont see it affecting his game
His edgework is insane. Marner good. And his speed is fine.

I’m suspicious.
yeah not many 17 year olds grow 2 inches, possible for sure but not often, except bball players like David Robinson.

My son laughs at some of the guys up for drafts (like Luca Cagnoni from Portland) who was on our Bantam A1 team a few years back. He was the smallest and worst dman but now he could go 2nd round. My son does laugh though when it says he's 5'10 as he has seen him and no way he is, just like Bedard isn't 5'10 either.

Regime needs to get creative at the draft and summer

Use some draft capital and prospects to make anothger Dach type deal

A player under 23 who needs a change of scenery with upside

Yeah. And they’re not going to draft Will Smith even if they can,
Why not?

Just judging by points he has been better than Cooley in their draft years.

I'm biased against him because of his name but he seems to be doing well. If we end up picking in the 5 to 7 range he seems worth a look.

I didn’t say they shouldn’t draft him, just that they won’t. But from what I’ve read, Logan Cooley is higher end. But they already have Suzuki and Dach, and Smith doesn’t seem like a huge upgrade, if at all, on either. I think they’ll draft the Austrian D.

One caveat: if HuGo thinks Smith will become an elite no. 1 center, then sure, there’s a good chance they take him.

The cool thing is that is that I will see Will Smith play in person next week in Plymouth, Michigan, as my son’s team qualified for USA Hockey’s Tier 1 Nationals and his age group are playing at the USNTDP rink in Plymouth.

I sure hope having an average centre doesn't prevent them from selecting Smith.

Ignore your own kid and get us a full report on Smith.
