2023 Draft and UFA Thread

If Michkov is somehow there at #5, the Habs will grab him. The talent disparity is too great vs the next tier of prospects. You can’t let a potential homerun pick move the needle elsewhere while you settle for a nice safe player. Three years is not a long wait. Slaf should be good by then
I'm not that interested in another Chuck, kk level guy in the top 5.

I’m with you. Seems like we have a great shot at getting an impact player this time unless we go out of our way to avoid Michkov

Marinaro doing a live update on the draft. When the Habs end up 5th he goes ballistic on all the fans who cheered meaningless wins and talked about "building a winning culture" as an excuse for not tanking this season.

Obviously will need to do some more digging/ reading but Carlson, Smith, michkov would be great at 5th. But I have this fear they will try to get somebody without that upside.

It's possible that Michkov only drops to us because he's deemed too risky by the other teams, so it would be wise to stay away too. Or maybe, the talent disparity between the other "2-5" isn't that great. Either way, it's tough to determine if he really is that special because there's limited info on him (like the pandemic drafts), no international tourneys, probably no combine/interview either.

It's been said many times. There are a bunch of fans who just want to go to the Bell, drink and watch a habs win here and there. It's been 30 years since we touched the cup with many ups and downs, so most fans just want a playoff caliber team. Look, even if we finished 4th, we had an extra what 1% chance at #1. Chicago can tank, retool, win a cup, then do it again 6-7 years later.

If we don't have injuries last year, we're probably not even finishing bottom 10. Fans have been accustomed to mediocrity, it's just the way it is, and Molson will sell out if he has a playoff team. Fans on the forums want a cup, and want the best player in the draft, and have a bit more of a long term vision but we aren't on the business side of things.

Whatever fans wanted had no bearing on the outcome. Whether you cheered for a loss and I for a win made no difference whether Nick scored or not.

Marinaro loves losing it over spilled milk.

Those that get excitable over said milk lap his shit up.

He's one dimensional.

For my money and pretty much anyone else's is Michkov. You get this guy at 5 and in 3 years people will be like "how the fuck was he picked fifth and not second "?

Beating OV's and $18m Over's records is no small feat and he didn't just squeak by. He blew by.

Also apparently Matvei is Bedard's Russian brother in that he eats, sleeps and shits hockey and that's what the great ones do.

The Habs tanked well enough...couldn't really compete with what Chicago did. Unless we traded Suzuki and Matheson for picks.
