2023 Draft and UFA Thread

I can easily see them taking Michkov. Their rebuild is a year or two behind ours so Grier can be more patient and wait him out and, Grier is working in relative anonymity in SJ. he can do whatever he wants to without a spotlight or heat on on him.
I see Carlsson there

Plays like Grier did but with way more offensive punch.

For whom or what?
He specified that they should not trade the pick for anyone at or approaching 30. Trade it (either on its own or as part of a package) for an established young player that their current team doesn't want to resign for big money. Someone better than Lafreniere.

Boisvert also said he would be open to trading any or all of the current crop of Habs prospects. He isn't sold on them and says their trade value will never be higher than it is right now. As soon as they get more exposure, they will morph from prospects into suspects.

He included Mailloux among this group. Says that what he did this year doesn't matter because he's a 20 year old playing with kids 2 or 3 years younger that he is able to physically dominate. But he won't be doing that in the NHL. Says Hutson doesn't skate well enough to duplicate his college performance at the NHL level either. He took a shit on pretty much every Habs prospect in the sense that he sees none of them as top 6 forwards or top 4 defensemen. They are all either third pair d-men, bottom six forwards or career minor leaguers.

If Hughes trades down it'll be 1-3 spots because he likes someone ranked lower and he'll pick up a first in 24 or 25 plus something to do it.

Young, established NHLer in their early to mid-20s. Not run-of-the-mill players, but one of the players that had him interested was K'Andre Miller.

Mentioned he would trade our first & more for Quinn Hughes if he was available in Vancouver.
Rags not moving Kandre

Button has us taking Dvorshy at 5
Button's picks aren't what he thinks teams will pick but who he would pick if he were in charge. His argument for Dvorsky is that he's got size that the Habs lack. He says there's only so many roster spots available for undersized players (like Michkov) and the Habs are already over the quota. But the only scout who I see ranking Dvorsky that high is McCagg and we all know he's a fucking moron. I'm far more likely to concur with Boisvert's opinion.

McCagg for whatever reason, has a lot of "pull" in the Montreal market as he is always on with Big Tony. However, the good news is that Hughes likely doesn't know who he is nor care what he has to say.

I do agree with Button re how many small guys we already have and have coming up, for whatever reason, our better players in the minors/junior are like 5'7-5'10. That said, it seems to me that if the Russian is as good as many say, then we simply dump the weaker small guys like Farrell, Harvey-Pinard, Richard and Gallagher (who likely is gone by the time the Russian gets here).

Hughes knows who he is, all agents know the loud mouths in the league and media. Some use them as useful idiots.

Yes and as Boisvert said, he doesn't think ANY of the Habs so-called "top" prospects are really all that good. Hutson is a prime example. I've seen the highlight reels and he looks great but at the end of the day he's five foot nothing, a hundred and nothing. He is not built to play on an NHL blue line and if he is, he has to be an elite skater, which he is not and never will be. So as soon as he plays against higher competition, he will be exposed and, as Boisvert expertly puts it, switch from being a "prospect" into a "suspect". If you can get a team to overpay for him, dump him.

That was just ridiculous.

Well, if you go back a few years and listen to what people said about our prospects back then who turned into career minor leaguers and outright busts, Boisvert may be on to something. Is there a fanbase that overvalues its prospects more than this one?

Yeah, all of them as far as I can tell. That's what fans do . . . of all teams. Pro sports teams are in the business of selling hope, and most fans buy into it, otherwise, what's the point of being a fan?
