2023 Draft and UFA Thread

For my money and pretty much anyone else's is Michkov. You get this guy at 5 and in 3 years people will be like "how the fuck was he picked fifth and not second "?

Beating OV's and $18m Over's records is no small feat and he didn't just squeak by. He blew by.
The three years doesn't concern me at all. It is what happens after that.

And as CH1 said starting an entry level deal at 21 is a great thing for the Habs cap.

Habs prospects are pretty good. Some of them will turn into nothing. Some will be decent and one or two will be great. They good thing is we have a bunch of good ones.

I'm not interested in trading them for young established players unless those players have potential. I'd rather trade them for other teams prospects if that is the route we go.

Button's picks aren't what he thinks teams will pick but who he would pick if he were in charge. His argument for Dvorsky is that he's got size that the Habs lack. He says there's only so many roster spots available for undersized players (like Michkov) and the Habs are already over the quota. But the only scout who I see ranking Dvorsky that high is McCagg and we all know he's a fucking moron. I'm far more likely to concur with Boisvert's opinion.
Ah......the memories. I wonder if he still thinks Jason Ward was a good pick, who just needs time.....years after he was selected.

And he would freak out if anyone took issue with it. Took it personally. Oh well, maybe he's grown up. Does a leopard change his spots?

We (Count, WeHave, a few others) all found it quite funny, didn't we? Makes me smile thinking about it.

SJ is the wildcard here. The top three are going to go as projected all year (Bedard, Fantilli & Carlsson). I think SJ will pick Smith - they need a no. 1 center for the future. I think Michkov will be there for us to take.

In that case take Michkov and get him the hell outta there.
The Athletic had an article on how Wild were able to get Kaprizov out of Russia and interviewed Guerin about the process (what he was allowed to share publicly)….was a spy thriller

Caps 1st rounder from last year purged his KHL contract to bolt for Wash next season, a few other players have done the same, granted none were top-5 picks

Bobrov is the key here, assuming Michkov’s actually available @ 5OA

If Mitch is gone, then one of Carlsson or Smith will be there for the habs.
Either would be fine.
We'll land one of the russian, the swede or the yank.

Yes. Do we really want another mccaron or leblanc?
I don't get that mentality at all. Potential super star but under 6'... oh then pass.

Trade one of the other smaller players. Rocket science.

Plus they don't ruin him. A lot of maturing from 18 to 21 goes on.
