2023 Draft and UFA Thread

I wonder what Grier will do in SJ. I don't see them taking Michkov. Too risky for a second year GM needing many parts.

I can recall at least 5 games that they fought back to win.

Hawk players also tried to fight back to win games. In fact they compromised their tank with a few wins at the end but were saved by ping pong balls and moved up 2 spots.

Their odds were 11.5%

Marinaro doing a live update on the draft. When the Habs end up 5th he goes ballistic on all the fans who cheered meaningless wins and talked about "building a winning culture" as an excuse for not tanking this season.

I watched his interview with Boisvert, and Jesus fucking Christ Marinaro's a terrible interviewer.

The interruptions, the over-the-top theatrics, the half an hour it takes for him to ask a fucking question. You could tell Boisvert was running out of patience.

I'm impatiently waiting for the annual 3 hour long Drette Sul Tappe draft podcast with actual competent people.

I think it'll be Bedard, Fantilli, Carlson, Smith in that order, leaving us at 5th.

I have a couple of reservations about Michkov. First and foremost he is in Russia and is of age to serve in the military. Right now he's got as much of a chance of being shot to death in Bakhmut by Count's son as he does to play in the NHL. Secondly, he is under 6 feet and the Habs are a team that already has between enough and too many undersized players. And as a winger, Michkov does not address our need at center.

That said, you draft for talent, not positional need. But you only consider Michkov if you are 100% certain that he's going to be allowed to come to North America and not get sent to die in the Ukraine. Otherwise you take whoever is left at #5. If a team ahead of us takes Michkov then we're guaranteed to get one of Smith, Carlsson or maybe Fantilli if he drops.

Which is why I wanted to finish third last when they still had the chance in March. Every percentage point counts

I can't listen to him anymore. Same shit always. He loves stoking people up.

I could do better.

The Habs tanked well enough...couldn't really compete with what Chicago did. Unless we traded Suzuki and Matheson for picks.
lottery is all horse shoes

Nucks were 1 ping pong ball combo away from Bedard with a 1% chance

Flip Smith and Carlsson. If Jaarmo passes on Eminem I could see him going Smith to play with Gaudreau. Smith is dynamic.

Regardless of what people may think of Wooflief & McCagg, I don't have the greatest opinions of either but I'll still listen to them, if Marinaro was an actual decent interviewer, his podcast last night would have been great. Three different guys who have been scouting for decades, with different perspectives and it would have been great to listen to.

Instead? We got whatever the fuck that was.

I can easily see them taking Michkov. Their rebuild is a year or two behind ours so Grier can be more patient and wait him out and, Grier is working in relative anonymity in SJ. he can do whatever he wants to without a spotlight or heat on on him.

For whom or what?
Young, established NHLer in their early to mid-20s. Not run-of-the-mill players, but one of the players that had him interested was K'Andre Miller.

Mentioned he would trade our first & more for Quinn Hughes if he was available in Vancouver.
