2023 Draft and UFA Thread

That's my ideal scenario as well.

I'm at the point where I'm willing to take real risks in hopes of getting an elite talent.

Let's say Matthews doesn't want to stay in Toronto and we don't have any intention of selecting Michkov, I'd give up our two firsts & whatever combination of prospects Toronto wants to acquire him (on the condition that he re-signs here).
I don't want that underachieving dog fucker on this team. He costs a fortune and he doesn't move the needle in games that matter.

No they couldn't

Good luck with Dubois not testing the market.

When was the last time you saw a sign and trade?
Sure they can , plenty of teams looking to make a trade and change their team

Horvat was technically a sign and trade , assets in return for a signed Bo

Peg will sit and get more at the deadline if necessary

They could also do a hockey sign and trade in the summer for a better return

That’s what I expect. Teams will knowingly bid for a rental at the deadline and Winnipeg will get 60 games and decent return. There’s no incentive for them to cave to the Habs.

I guess that was sort of a sign and trade... but not exactly... and even if it was, it was not something that ever happens.

Plenty of trades went in the past for a player extended to a contract

Teams are in dump mode and may want to move assets to afford PLD`s ne contract

I wouldnt even be surprised if PLD is extended and MS gets traded

A stretch but even so, before that?

Once in their final year their agents tell them to test the market if they're players like PLD or above unless the team makes an offer that the agent feels won't be beat on the market.

I would rather have PLD. Thats what Peg should be trying to do. MS is often injured. Doesn't have many good years left. Same track as Gallagher health wise.

The GM has publicly stated the head coach will be back next season - the same head coach who singled out the top end players on the team. True North spend the last half of the season messaging ticket sales need to improve.

Chevaldayoff’s going to make the moves this summer & retool for a chance to make a playoff push - he’s got no other options.

PLD will be a Trouba type deal which involved 20OA pick - who was in the exact same position, 1-year away from UFA and interested in playing for one team whose GM happened to be Gorton.

Boisvert said that if Michkov is available Hughes should run, not walk, to the podium and select him. He is apparently the closest thing to Bedard in this draft besides Bedard himself. In most other years he'd be a cinch to go first overall. He had Michkov ranked ahead of Fantilli and just a tick below Bedard.
