2023 Habs Lineup

The 2021 summer was much, much worse because at least in 2017, you could tell there was a plan & goal. That's not to say the plan was a good one, but at least there was one.

In 2021, it was full-on panic mode. Shit, shit, fuck, what do we do?? We gotta keep this train on the rails!! The most obvious sign was when they got Mike Hoffman, who was the exact type of player The Charlatan hated.
I agree. 2017 was poor foresight. Offers for Markov and Radulov were good but you can’t really control players wishes. Alzner signing was terrible but he succeeded later with Chiarot and Edmundson. Drouin’s trade was misguided but you could reason what he was thinking. 2021 was pure panic and improvisation.

I might be the only one, but I didn't care much about losing Radulov. I mean, I would have loved to keep him, but I'm not a fan of giving a lot of money & term to players who are in their late 20s and he had just turned 31. Now Radulov was good in years 1 & 2, but year 3 & onwards? It went downhill, unsurprisingly.

Losing Markov was so fucking dumb, though. Not wanting to give him an extra year? Get the fuck out of here, man.

Fuck yah. Brutal mistake.

In the optics that Montreal was in at that point with Price and Weber, 2-3 years was all that mattered.

As for Markov, it goes both ways, leaving the NHL and 5-6M on the table because of an extra year, which you could get anyway next year? Dumb.

No team offered 2 years , he should of been traded to the Kings for a nice haul

Habs were winning nothing with or without him
This.

The brutal mistake was Markov's, not Bergevin's. Not only did no team offer 2 years, no team offered even 1 year. Markov finished his career in the KHL where he scored 8 goals and 54 points over 3 years.

Bergy’s prickly negotiating style served him well when making trades but was a turnoff with players. Exceptions are his man crushes like Pricey and Gally where he just handed them blank cheques

And dry humped their legs.
Please don’t forget the dry humping

Let’s see how Hughes does on pending UFA contracts - MB signed Price, Pacioretty, Gallagher to sweetheart hometown discounts on their pre-UFA deals also

Habs have done their heavy lifting deals and Hugo basically told Cole , your not making more than Nick

I dont see Guhle , Slaf or anyone else looking at a mega deal

They perfectly structured Dach and Newhook and kept them RFA`s

I dont see any Nero lunacy as long as this regime is in place

The interesting team will be Carolina with their core D , Aho and TT all up in a year or 2

Notoriously frugal franchise have major decisions with term to deal with

You can definitely discern a plan from the actions under HuGo, refreshing actually. Whether that plan works or not is another story but at least there is a plan.

Worth updating with Edmundson gone.

Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson
Dach-Monahan-Gallagher
Newhook-Dvorak-Hoffman
RHP-Evans-Armia
Pezzetta
One of Lias Andersson or Emil Heineman?

Slafkovsky -> AHL
Farrell -> AHL

Matheson-Kovacevic
Guhle-Savard
Harris-Barron
Wideman

Xhekaj -> AHL

Montembeault
Allen
Worth updating with Petry & De Smith in, and Hoffman & Pitlick out.

For however long that lasts, anyway.

I think Ylonen sticks instead of Farrell (he needs some time in the AHL). I think Wideman survives by virtue of waivers so Barron goes down instead.

I dont see Farrell on our roster this year

Maybe in the second half, depending on injuries and how he does in Laval.

It's going to be one hell of a competition for call ups in Laval this year.

I wouldn't mind seeing a line of Roy-Farrell-Slafkovsky down there to start the season. Maybe Kidney can center Andersson and Heineman.
