2023 Habs Lineup

I think it's dumb but whatever. Not like they didn't fumble about in NY. Well Gorton anyway.

Wasn’t it the case the Habs had basically zero space last year because Price was on LITR before the season started?

But this year it’ll be almost 6M in cap space?

Yes.
Maybe a little less than 6m depending on timing and how close they are to the cap ceiling before Price goes to LTIR

I don't expect the team to be nearly as bad as it was last season, and I do think they'll be in the mix for the last playoff spot for a considerable chunk of the year.

I'm very curious to see if management will hold on to assets like Monahan & Pearson if they're close to the playoffs, or if they'll wisely sell them off to a contender.

Geez, I hope they stick to their guns. I would think Pearson gets moved.

If we’re relying on Monohan to protect Suzuki again, then maybe there’s a challenge. But if Dach steps up, then surely the vets will be moved. We’ll see…

Yeah I think Monahan likes being in Montreal and they like having him. Moneyhands is a good player if he can stay healthy. Huge if.

Yeah, it depends how close they are. For now it’s been easy decisions but if we’re in a 5 points window at the tradeline, how will our leadership react is an unknown at this point

If Montembeault's a .910-.915 goalie, which I think is a real possibility, we'll be close.

All depends on injuries, as it has been for the past two seasons.

Speaking of Montembeault, he might end up being our best asset if he has a good year.

$1M for what would be, in theory, a capable starter?

Team would need huge years from Cole , Nick , Dach and the D to turn it up 2 notches

Monty will regress...the D will go through long bouts of growing pains....the conference is strong

for those reasons, I am not fretting trade deadline angst

I'm not sure Montembeault will regress.

Montembeault's only improved since his arrival here. Yeah, he improved later on in life, but that happens sometimes with goalies.

But regardless, I wouldn't re-sign him to be here next year and if he's going to be continuing his improvements, trade him for a second round pick.

If he has a solid year he will looking for 4+ mil as a UFA

I dont think he gets moved this year , Habs will try to unload Armia , Evans , Dvorak and Mony

I don’t think we’ll be close to a playoff spot.

Likely not. They would need everything to go right, and then some (e.g. Slaf exploding) to stay in the race. They’ll have a better season, almost by default, but will still be in last place in the division in January.
