2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

3 even strength goals in the last 4 games. Whatever the combos are, the Canes have to get back to dominating 5v5.
This is not a recent trend either. Aho's lines have been underwater at even strength since about the 3rd week of the season. Staal's line is going to be that way kind of by design, but without any 5v5 drive from Aho's group they're putting WAY too much pressure on that second scoring line. Especially when you consider that line is weak at center no matter the matchup. On nights when they get beat by their opposite numbers, and they got hammered on the Islander the other night, it's gonna get ugly unless the Canes can come up with enough special teams push to compensate. And even with 2 PP goals in the last one, it was bad enough otherwise not to matter.

It's an issue for sure. And it's not a simple issue to fix. Some of it is down to roster structure and some of it is on player performance.

That he did; couple that with Levin's comments from the start of the season and I think it's becoming more clear to everyone but Tony A what the issues have been in Chicago

I mean, that's pretty obvious to US ... but most of the formerly ink stained wretches who cover hockey for a meager living 100% buy into the collected wisdom of the old hockey men. So it's easy for charlatans like Chicago's owner to spin them a yarn about how "reckless" and "unconventional" things are in Carolina and they just nod their heads and regurgitate the story without stopping for a logic check. There's a reason that old fart who owns the Wolves can't keep an NHL affiliate for more than a couple of years and it has both jack and squat to do with Tom Dundon.

Yaniv Perets was assigned to Bloomington, so I guess Khazheyev beat him out for the backup in Chicago.

VERY low bar. On the floor, pretty much. That kid needs a good long stint in the ECHL to show whether or not he can be a pro at any level. I've got doubts he's going to level out at that level, honestly. He just doesn't read the play at a pro level.

Lines at practice. KK gets his shot. And Jost has replaced Drury on PP2.

RBA says Drury is having hand surgery and there is no timeline for his return. He broke something in his thumb.

Per Ryan Henkel, Drury is having surgery on his thumb. I'm guessing that means at least a month looking at other guys with similar.

So... PP1=Svech, Aho, Necas, Jarvis, Gostisbehere
PP2 Now = Roslovic, KK, Blake, Jost and Burns?

I'm assuming the thought process there is that we need Jost on PP2 to have any shot of winning left handed faceoffs (since KK is under 50% and is tossed out of more draws than he takes).

I get that, but I would really much rather have Burns down low and Sean Walker at the point OR even put Eric Robinson on PP2 as a net front and have Burns at the point. If PP2 needs to take a faceoff, then sure, get Tyson Jost out there. Changing on the fly? No thanks. Jost stopped being an NHL PP guy after the 19-20 season.

Another valid point of view is 'who cares, our PP2 gets very little play anyways?' And that is true....PP1 gets around 3 minutes 50 seconds per game as opposed to PP2 which only gets around 1 minute 15 seconds per game.

The Canes also did the dman shuffle, sending Ty Smith down and recalling Riley Stillman

In a passing thought, has anyone heard how Jesper Fast is doing? Just curious.

I hope he's feeling good and his health is improving.

Jim
LOL. He's getting the Jake Gardiner treatment from our local press. Once you land on LTIR for the Canes, it's like you've died for all the followup interest you get.

I mean what do you want them to report? He’s still breathing? We know he’s out for a very long time so there is no real update unless he magically grows new body parts and can play Sunday. Now that would be a story.

I mean, it would be nice if somebody at least asked about his condition every so often. He's still on the roster after all. As far as I've seen there hasn't been a word reported since he had surgery and that was months ago.

I don't want the guy staked out or anything ... jeebus.

Sorry, didn't mean for it to come across that way
