Speaking of the power play, Smith was running PP1 at practice. I guess leaving Burns on PP2 is a back door way of reducing his minutes? But why Smith and not Walker? At least Walker has run PP2 before.Yeah ... not sure what happened with Ghost but at least Rod didn't go straight to worst case territory. Of course, they'll primarily miss him on the power play.
Smith is not an NHL defenseman period! Go either plug Stillman or Morrow in there and stop the nonsense with Smith. Better yet, start having a more NHL experienced guy as your number 7 D like most teams have. Similar to Jost up front, at least have a guy to plug and play that has played more than enough meaningful nhl games at some point in the league. The games that Smith played back with the Pens years ago were not anything you would want to see again…trust me.Speaking of the power play, Smith was running PP1 at practice. I think we’ll see Jaaska on the 4th line. PP2 could be Walker at the point and Burns as a net front, they’ve done that before.Jaaksa is a winger, so he doesn't really directly replace Jost in the lineup. A 4th line of Robinson-Blake-Jaaska would be without a true center.
As for PP#2, we might be able to get away with Jaaska just replacing Jost, but that means KK being the primary faceoff guy. KK is 49.3% to Jost's 49.2% overall this season but KK is just 28.6% on the PP to Jost's 66.7% (yes those are very small sample sizes, 7 faceoffs for KK, just 3 for Jost). KK gets booted from more than half of the draws he lines up for, so we would just be left with Roslovic really as a faceoff option for PP2. He is at 45.1% (40% on PP).
PP2 faceoffs isn't a huge concern, but Line 4 on the road is. You could argue we could avoid having line 4 out for any faceoffs that are not as a result of icing by actively managing the lines, but that isn't ideal.
Are we really going 'centerless' on line 4 @Florida tonight? Or is Jaaksa going to slot into line 2 and we are going to bump KK down to line 4 (and have Necas taking faceoffs on line 2? Necas is 42.3% for the season.
Really. It's shaping up that he would have been the only thing on the field at C-F worth a flying doggie butt fuck next fall.UGH. He just did a Panthers game and looked great. I freaking hate this.
