2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

FWIW I think he stays.

the Canes have never had the superstar thing work out, but they're still always in contention since TD has been in charge, so I'm not overly concerned. I think we're better with Rantanen than without, but I also think that GMET can put together a solid group regardless.

I do too, mostly because they can afford to over-pay and over-term Rantanen and have that extra year to play with. And if you're finally going to go there, then this is the kind of guy to do it with. He's not just a first team All Star kind of player, he's also got the huge frame and he's younger than what you normally see when a high quality player comes to market. Carolina already has the next step makeover of their defense group queued up in Nikishin and Morrow and has a decent selection of support guys locked in for the next cycle. The biggest missing piece is the impact scorer and you just spent a fair amount of asset capital to get one. The pieces are all there for this to get done, even if it's not the nature of the club to rush things. From there all you've got to do is find a center for that second scoring line, which means finally giving up on Kotkaniemi. That's easier for Tulsky to do since he can pin that on Waddell and move on.

And if it all blows up and they have to re-build over the summer, then they can take some inspiration from what Washington did last summer. That was a VERY Hurricanes-looking collection of moves the Caps made last off season. And they were building around way less than the Canes will have for a core group.

I don’t know where I stand on this. I want to sign him long term, but the pessimist in me doesn’t think we’ll get a deal done. Not because they won’t spend the money, because they will, but I’m not sold on whether Rantanen wants to be here. No proof or anything, just my own insecurities I guess.

You don’t let him leave unless the guy absolutely tells you he hates it here and won’t sign…then you have to get that word now and move him. No team should ever let assets like Necas go when under contract for nothing! I think personally Aho and Tulsky along with Tom’s wallet convince him to stay on a 8 year deal and we all live happily ever after, isn’t the whole point of Rants and his agent desires to sign a huge contract as a top paid player…just sign here and get it done and be the man.

The Canes are practicing before heading to Toronto this afternoon. Slavin and Jarvis are missing. Jost should be back in the lineup tomorrow, he’s been cleared.

Rantanen - Aho - X
Hall - Kotkaniemi - Blake
Martinook - Staal - Svechnikov
Robinson - Jost - Roslovic

Stillman - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
Gostisbehere - Walker

Kochetkov | Andersen

Jarvis back on the 1st line? I'd like that, if for no other reason that to bring his predictable jolt of joyous energy to two Finns who were both gripping it a little too tightly in the 4 Nations. Rantanen played better than Aho but they were both trying too freaking hard to make it happen.

They're all dead positive Rantanen isn't staying....

Even Elliot Friedman says he's gone....is his agent talking to everyone?
