2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Really good podcast analysis about the Rantanen trade situation by Elliote Friedman, beginning around 13:45.

That was great. Thanks.

For those that cannot or do not want to listen to this, the genesis of these events was at the very beginning, before the trade with Colorado. Remember, the Avs had an offer for Mikko that he turned down. The Hurricanes reached out to the Avs for permission to speak with him and they granted that permission. Mikko's agent then thought that this was just a pressure tactic by the Avs and he called their bluff by agreeing to speak with the Hurricanes and they made noises that "yeah, sure, Carolina would be good" while still thinking this was all just a bluff on the Avs' part. So when the trade happened, Mikko and his agent were shocked. I mean, how shocked can you be? You had to know that this was a possible outcome. So, it all was just a sit-com style turn of events based on misunderstandings, poor communication, and hilarity.

A lot of pain was caused, but hey, it really did turn out to be OK for the Hurricanes. They got a young forward who may be undersized but I have yet to hear anything negative about his game. Also got a few new first rounders and possibly avoided signing someone to a way overpriced and eternal contract.

Sure gave the content creators a whole lot of content!

After watching a couple more clips out there from yesterday and hearing the comments from 96 himself in his own words on TSN how can you not be pissed off at how half assed his attitude was here in the handful of weeks he was here. Let’s get past the agent BS and the media talking heads nonsense and get to the heart of what the Canes did for the player and how he outright shit all over the Canes. They were forthright in the initial interest before a trade, they gave up key pieces to acquire him, they upset the chemistry of the team midseason to bring him in, they met his demands on a new contract to the max, they wanted him to perhaps be the new face of the franchise and for all of that they got a half assed effort on the ice from the guy, a rejection at every turn on signing the term and price he wanted and then pretty much in his parting shots says the city here is nothing he would ever want…sorry but the guy needed to go and anyone that continues to bitch and moan about how awful Dundon and Tulsky and the org are need to have their head examined. What team would think it would be a great idea to let that kind of player stay through a playoff run and think that would be the foundation of a “Cup Run”???
