2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Before he moves on, the Hurricanes marketing department needs to come up with a limited edition Frederik Andersen china figurine. They'll need to be double wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in packing peanuts due to the fragility of the product. The highly polished pedestal (sold seperately) looks close to the Stanley Cup, just not too close. Please be prepared for a 3-4 month wait on delivery. No C.O.D.s. *heavy sigh*

Dude can play great, when he can play, that's what's so maddening. I love how well the team plays in front of Freddie, but this missing the majority of the season mess is getting stale.

Jim
Its a two figurine set, the second one is called “Shit the Bed Fred” and it’s the pose from the Rangers clinching playoff game in the third period last year …that one comes complete with a 💩 in the matching stand.

Are you not going to need a platoon for Pyotr regardless moving forward next year and beyond? If Freddy and that body is pretty much shot we all know the Canes will not be even thinking about bringing him back, it would not hurt if you could somehow find a better option than Martin now and even into next year if you had a contract with term...just a tough time to ever shore up your goaltending mid season and every other team knows you are scrambling. Martin is a good 3 on the depth chart and that's probably where it ends...a fulltime backup to Pyotr for the remainder is a bit scary for me.
We do need someone; I guess my main point is that trying to get some now, mid-season, and negotiating from a place of desperation isn't something this club normally does, and also is a great way to have to overpay for some schlub you could get next summer for peanuts.

Without good tending you won't know that you're a real contender, but the question I always ask people is who specifically are you bringing in? The list of available bodies that you'd want with any kind of term is rather short imho

How would they know? Without solid goaltending it’s not a cup run year but this team is every bit as good as last year’s team. I think the media says it was a reset/down year but I think our D is better and our forward mix works better. The key is and was Necas and KK. If they play like legit top 6 forwards it’s a cup run year.
No doubt, but the time to address the issue was not re-signing Freddie before. Now you're working from desperation and you're going to have to settle instead of getting the guy you want to lock up for a few years.

Outside of the confines of this board ... why does it seem like nobody remembers that Necas signed a TWO year deal this summer? "Necas is gonna get paid!" I hear it over and over and over. Yeah, he is ... in 2026. And the Canes are probably going to see how he backs up this season before they throw a bank vault at him

More than likely Carolina will just look for a more reliable backup for Kochetkov and let the kid show if he can be a traditional starter. Your chances of finding a proper platoon guy in the middle of the season are slim and none unless you're taking a huge swing on a goalie who is playing like trash.

Dustin Tokarski came off his couch and pitched a shutout for the Wolves yesterday. ;)

The Professional Women’s Hockey League Takeover Tour is coming to Raleigh. The league has scheduled 9 neutral site games and the Ottawa Charge will play the Minnesota Frost at Lenovo Center on March 7. Tickets will be available starting with a presale on 11/21 and the general on sale is 11/22.

I think this whole Takeover Tour thing is a really good idea for a league on the hunt for new markets.

The Canes game in Tampa, originally scheduled for October 12 will be played on January 7. That breaks up a 5 game homestand the Canes had from January 4 - 12

Cool. That went from the back end of a back to back set to a stand alone road trip with an off day in front and back.

Dang, I was going to quote myself on this, then I re-read... "Outside of the confines of this board..."

That being said, a lucky decision on his part, given the stratospheric jump in the cap being bandied about.

It's good hockey too, better experienced live. Far more physical than previous women's leagues that I've been to (not that physical play is the end all be all). It was also nice to see another pro team (Boston) whose PP looks as bad as ours last year. :ROFLMAO:

When I was managing my daughter’s teams, we played in the Polar Bear tournament in Connecticut at Christmas. I used to send the parents a schedule with a few U19AA games so they could see high level girls hockey. Some of the big guns…Shattuck, Victory Honda, NAHA…would send a squad, as would the local prep schools. It was also a recruitment tool for the college and prep school coaches. A couple of the girls got into prep school, another played D3 hockey in Wisconsin.
