The Raleigh City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday to discuss rezoning 81 acres around the arena. The request includes a proposal to allow up to 40 story buildings, up from 12 currently allowed. The plan is broken down into 4 districts. I don’t know if it’s behind a paywall so I’ll summarize.
District A - the East 2000 and 3000 lots and the area around the loading dock wouldn’t be developed immediately but would rezoned to allow 40 story buildings in future development
District B - the primary entertainment district. It encompasses the entire west side, the south side between the arena and stadium and the east 1000 lot. This would include up to 800 residential units and 890,000 square feet of non-residential space. It would be zoned for 15 story buildings.
District C - the area between District B and Edwards Mill would be a mix of retail, restaurants and residential with heights up to 40 stories.
District D - the area near the intersection of Wade and Edwards Mill is a live/work district with the highest concentration of residential and retail. It would allow up to 40 stories.
