"13th in the country" sounds like a weird name for a hockey team! :D

Lines and pairings at practice today. Staal is absent, Carrier participated in a yellow jersey, a very good sign. Andersen was in the starter’s crease.

Jarvis-Aho-Blake
Svechnikov-Roslovic-Hall
Martinook-Kotkaniemi-Stankoven
Robinson-Jankowski-Jost

Slavin-Burns
Orlov-Chatfield
Gostisbehere-Walker

PP1: Gostisbehere, Aho, Hall, Blake, Jarvis
PP2: Burns, Kotkaniemi, Roslovic, Svechnikov, Stankoven

RBA said post-practice that Staal is doubtful for tomorrow.

The Canes clinch a playoff spot tonight if Montreal loses to Florida or Columbus loses to Nashville.

No clinching tonight. The Habs tied it with 9 seconds left in the 3rd and won in OT. They swept the Panthers this season. Columbus hung 8 on the Preds.

Ovechkin had 1 goal tonight, so he needs 4 to break the record. Without Staal, we’ll have to see if KK‘s or Aho’s line matches up with him.

The City Council held off on the rezoing vote last night that would clear the way for the entertainment district poject around Lenovo Center. It will likely happen at the April 15th meeting; the council has asked the Canes to tweak the plans slightly to address a couple of pedestrian safety concerns.

Yup. The slow walk is directly related to a pressure campaign from the Cardinal Gibbons community, although to be honest I've always considered their concerns to be ... ummm ... sorta made up.

No offense to anyone with ties to the school, but their prior administrations knew full well what redevelopment/build out in the area would eventually look like and were fine with it.

Former Cane Max Comtois with a double overtime winner for Dynamo as they beat SKA 5-4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. One day closer to Nikishin!!! Former Canes Cedric Paquette and Kuzy also battling it out in that series.

Paquette! How is that guy only 31? Seems like he hung around the fringes of the NHL for absolute ever.

Again, let's freaking go, Dynamo.

Justin Robidas was recalled from Chicago. It’s his first recall. He has 17 goals, 31 assists for the Wolves. If he plays, the Canes could ice a line where 5’10” Seth Jarvis is the tallest player.

Harman Dayal from The Athletic has a list of the most underrated dmen in the league. No, Jaccob Slavin isn’t on it, the theory is that he, and others, have been called underrated for so long, they’re not underrated anymore. But Jalen Chatfield is on the list. Just don’t read the comments.

Underrated body slam the other night IMHO…😀

NEVER read the comments. Something changed in The Athletic's comments sections since they got subsumed into the NY Times, and it's been a bloodbath for common sense in those things ever since.

As for Chatfield, I think he's turning into one of those guys who is wildly under rated around the league and wildly over rated by local fans. He's a solid middle pairing guy who came from a humble start. That kind of thing happens with those dudes.

Best thing I appreciate about Chatfield is his motor and his willingness to always give you a complete effort...even when he gets caught out of position when he does pinch to join the rush the dude really does care about always getting back defensively, never quits on a play!

Yeah, the difference in reactions between 2019 and now are stark. The guys were excited to clinch last night, but it more of a confirmation of met expectations. In 2019, it was an explosion of joy and relief best exemplified by Mr Azek's post game interview. I'm convinced that the rush they boys got off of that qualification process was what drove them past Washington, which in turn drove them past the Isles. No amount of emotion was gonna bridge the gap between that team and the Bruins, sadly.
