Chicago Wolves last 2 weeks:

Feb 8 @Bakersfield W 4-3(OT) Martin with the win. Fensor (OT winner), Unger Sorum, Smith and Nadeau with the goals.
Feb 9 @Bakersfield L 4-0 Tokarski with the loss.
Feb 14 @Rockford L 6-3 Martin with the loss. Brind'Amour, Morrow and Nadeau with the goals
Feb 15 Cleveland L 4-1 Tokarski with the loss. Nadeau with the goal
Feb 16 Cleveland L 3-2 Martin with the loss. Brind'Amour and Slavin with the goals

Rough 2 weeks for the Wolves. They are still 4th in the AHL Central divisions but lost ground to the 3 teams ahead of them.

Nadeau's goal scoring heater continued, he is now T14 in the AHL in goals with 19 and is far and away the Chicago's goal scoring leader now. Ryan Suzuki leads the team in assists with 29 and points with 35 (Nadeau is right behind him now with 34 points)

3 Home Games this week. Thr v. Milwaukee, Sat v. Iowa, Sun v. Rockford Milwaukee is the Central Div leader. Iowa and Rockford are behind Chicago in the standings.

I will say the most depressing part of updating the stats for our prospects is the Goalies. Most of our unsigned goalie prospects barely play at all, and if they do play, they stink. And of course there is Yegor Naumov who once again has completely disappeared.

As for our signed goalies 'prospects':

Ruslan Khazheyev:

With AHL Chicago: 4-9-0 3.33 GAA .876 Sv%
With ECHL Bloomingon: 0-1-0 6.65 GAA .800 Sv%

Yanev Perets:

With AHL Chicago: 1-2-1 3.93 GAA .846 Sv%
With ECHL Bloomingon: 8-7-1 2.08 GAA .935 Sv%

Perets has been great for Bloomington. Khazheyev is getting zero playing time now in Chicago. Russian leagues will be starting their playoffs in about 4 weeks, so it's a bit too late to ship him back to Russia for the rest of the season.

I'm right there with you on the goalie situation. We are plowing towards the end of the second goalie cycle that's going to end with the Canes looking for a UFA or a trade in the summer. That's both risky and expensive. And in the intervening 6 years, your development program has produced one NHL goalie ... and he may or may not even be capable of being a fulltime starter and is kind of a lunatic ... and prospect we traded out for an NHL asset. Time to change the recipe because that's just too lean to be sustainable.

The Hurricanes have been throwing darts at the deep end of the Russian pool hoping to hit on another Kochetkov but the quantity approach hasn't been encouraging. Other than that, they've grabbed one friend of a friend out of college and a couple of random European long shots. Given how stinking expensive it is to pry a decent goalie away from another club (either in acquisition cost or contract cost, or both) I think it's getting to be time for them to re-think the draft plan for the position group. Right now, the most reliable source of NHL-quality keepers is the US colleges and that doesn't look like it's changing anytime soon. I'd be all in favor of redirecting some scouting staff resources to identify a couple of college bound prospects and then doing what it takes to line them up in the draft ... rather than chucking a bunch of lower round prayers out and hoping one of them lands. Either that, or maybe they can scout the crap out of other teams' programs and identify a couple of developing keepers and get them in before they hit the NHL and get expensive to acquire. Something's gotta give in goal.
