2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Another trade today. Columbus sends dman David Jiricek and a 5th round pick to Minnesota for dman Daemon Hunt, a 2025 1st rounder and 2027 2nd and 4th rounders.
 
Jiricek basically demanded a trade, right? This could be a really bad return for him if he can find his NHL game, because he's got a lot of tools and has been very, very good at the AHL level.

His biggest rub is his skating according to the experts...might be several years to assess that trade fairly.

I mean, I've seen him play a few times. He's not Bobby Orr or anything, but there's TONS of guys in the league who don't skate any better.

Skinner is lucky he has a full NMC because that might be the only thing keeping him on Edmonton's roster.
 
Chris Johnston from The Athletic and TSN says that Jacob Trouba is being kept off the ice for roster management purposes. He says a trade or even waivers is possible.

Tough one. I think Richardson has made some flatly moronic lineup decisions this season but by all accounts their younger guys like him and feel supported by him ... which is kind of Job 1 for them right now. They really just needed somebody to get him to put Bedard with some linemates who compliment him. Maybe the front office tried to talk him around and he wouldn't budge. I dunno.

Yeah. There's a number of good teams scratching around right now, including the Hurricanes, Colorado, Winnipeg, Florida, Vancouver ... but nobody makes a much noise as a primary New York team unexpectedly on the skids. Especially one with a young GM who hasn't proven himself. That's freaking catnip to the NY sports press.
 
Frankly, the Rangers better by having Trouba out of the lineup, so anything they add in a trade is just gravy. The guy has been below replacement level for a couple of years now. Miller was dragging him around and it was hurting both of them.
 
Trouba is gone to the Ducks. The Rangers get dman Urho Vaakanaian and the earlier of Detroit’s or Boston’s 2025 4th rounder. No salary retention. Vaakanaian has played 141 NHL games for Boston and Anaheim across 8 seasons, with 68 games played last season. He has 1 goal, 24 assists.
