2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

The Avs completed restructuring their goalie tandem. Earlier they had traded Justus Annunen to Nashville for Scott Wedgewood. Today they traded Alexandar Georgiev, forward Nikolai Kovalenko, a conditional 2025 5th and a 2026 2nd to San Jose for Mackenzie Blakwood, forward Givani Smith and a 2027 5th rounder.
Who would have thought that a team that is considered a contender would decide to go with a goalie tandem of Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood? Bonkers stuff in Denver and you'd have to imagine that the Avs might not be done with that goalie rotation just yet. Maybe three backups is the eventual play.

That said, sticking with Georgiev was an even worse idea. He's a shell of the goalie he was 2 years ago ... and that version wasn't all that great.

Blackwood and Wedgewood sounds like a wrestling pair of lumberjacks from the 70s!
In one corner Johnny Valentine and Bulldog Brower vs The Lumberjacks. Damn I’m old

Yeah that went from weird to plain old crazy...both of those guys for the most part are career backups...you almost have to think the Av's might wait and see if they can get out of that recent funk to see if they are even in playoff contention and then decide if they want to go out and trade for another goaltender closer to the deadline...like perhaps a starter on an expiring contract or even a John Gibson type of add.

BTW...anyone care to pull up a chair, grab a drink and watch the Good Ship Ranger keep sinking to the bottom of the sea??? :ROFLMAO:

Those scuffling Black Hawks had not won on the road in over five weeks...until they hit MSG!!!
The MSG boo birds were easily audible in the third period!

Or ... hear me out ... they looked at the goalie tandem Vegas won the Cup with and decided to see if these two nobodies were the right two nobodies before they go out and spend capital on another starter.

Sean McIndoe has a humorous look at the most self-indulgent NHL award, the Mark Messier Leadership Award. He ranked 8 winners on how poorly the award held up, with the most recent winner, Jacob Trouba as the worst.

If the NHL had any self awareness at all, they'd discontinue that award and find something else to stick Messier's name on so he wouldn't pitch a hissy fit. It's been a joke from day one

The Ducks send Cam Fowler and a 4th to St. Louis for a 2nd and a minor league prospect. Ducks retain 38.5%

Edit: both picks are in 2027. The prospect is dman Jeremie Biakabutuka (nephew of former Panther Tim), who is in the 2nd year of his entry level contract. He’s mostly played in the ECHL.

Holy smokes, that is a deeeeep pull. I completely forgot about Tim the day that he was no longer a Panther. He is, sadly, a what could've been story if he had been able to avoid injuries. According to Wikipedia, Tim still lives in North Carolina; Matthews to be exact. He also owns eight Bojangles restaurants.

So, the same team that didn't get the Rangers to retain salary on Trouba managed to send a relatively useful middle pairing guy to St Louis, get nothing but middling futures for him AND retained salary? Honestly, I was joking about Verbeek getting fired for the Trouba deal but this one should get him a pink slip. Also, what's the freaking hurry? You KNOW they'd have gotten more for Fowler closer to the deadline.
