2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

The Wild have acquired Gustav Nyquist from the Preds in exchange for a second round pick. Nashville retains 50% of Nyquist's salary.

Lindgren is a nice playoff addition D for the Avalanche, he’s no stranger to rough and tumble playoff hockey.
I mean, I guess. He's pretty vanilla for all that and not much of an upgrade over Kylington, especially given the mistakes he's been prone to making this season as the Rangers' D has fallen apart. They got him pretty cheap and he's a rental, so the stakes are low. That is a sign that NYR might be pulling up stakes though. No way they move Lindgren if they're positioning for the playoffs.

At first I thought that was cheap for Nyquist ... then I remembered what kind of season he was having. Oof. He's been awful . 21 points and minus 20, with only one PP point. Dang man.

Conversely, what is Florida thinking? Chicago retains 26% of his hit, but Florida still has him for 5 more years at $7 million.
Well, he's a darn sight closer to a $7 million defenseman than he is a $9.5 million defenseman. As you know, opinions vary on Jones with the old hockey men types still drooling over the guy for some reason. I've always thought he's a good 3/4 guy who moves so easily and looks so good doing his job that he gets confused for a 1/2. Nurse has the same issue, although Jones is more technically sound than Nurse. Hanifin is another one of those guys. I've always said that if Seth Jones skated like Brady Skjei (similar in skating ability, but with wildly different styles) he's probably get slotted correctly.

I think Zito sees Jones as this summer's replacement for Ekblad. Ekblad plays the same side, makes $7.5 million, and won't be worth 75% of what he's going to get in this specific UFA market. There's no chance Florida can extend him and at least this gives them a viable replacement moving forward. I guess they figure the last 3 years of Jones' deal are a problem for some other day.

Oh, and they obviously never got comfortable with Knight post-rehab. So he was always going somewhere.

Aho couldn‘t convert a breakaway last night, Tavares and Knies both hit in the last minute of the 2nd period to put the Leafs ahead of the Pens 5-4

Keefe lost his mind when there was no call on that and got tossed. I can see the ref's POV, because it really did look like Hughes and Eichel just got their feet tangled up. The only body contact was hip to hip and Eichel didn't put anything into it really. They both went sprawling. I'd have a hard time calling that a trip or whatever else Keefe wanted.

Of course, he's got historic beef with Wes McCauley and his team just blew a chance to get back into that game on the partial 2 on 1 break. So there's a couple of layers of frustration there. Still, maybe try not acting like a 3 year old who got his ice cream knocked out of his hand.

At first I thought it was interference but when I watched the replay, the puck was at their feet. I think it’s just an unfortunate result of a legal play. Even my Devils fan friend isn’t whining over it, just lamenting Hughes possibly being done for the season.

If that's a shoulder again after Jack Hughes has had big problems with both shoulders in the past that could be a huge loss for the Devils. I can honestly see Fitzgerald taking all that cap space on Hughes and trying to shore things up by Friday if they get bad news on Hughes long term.

Given games in hand, the Devils are plausibly tied with Columbus for third in the Metro and while their goaltending changes help lock down their defensive issues their scoring has dried up. And since starting off hot, they've only managed on extended stretch of convincing hockey since ... and that was in Nov/Dec. The Devils have only won 5 games in regulation since New Years Day. So yeah, Devils fans are not in a good place right now, nor should they be. Especially since so much of what offense they do manage runs directly through Hughes.

Even if they LTIR him, are they going to find a 1st line center on the rental market? Because, those are few and far between and they don't have a ton of prospect depth to move. They have 3 2nd rounders this year but already moved their 1st rounder. As salty as Canes fans are right now, I'd a danged sight take Carolina's situation over New Jersey's.
