2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Finland lost another dman, Rasmus Ristolainen is out. He’s being replaced by Ottawa’s Nikolas Matinpalo, who has played 18 NHL games this year. He played 5 seasons in Liiga before coming to the US.
Huge upgrade there. A coat rack would be an upgrade over Risto.

After giving up a touchdown to the Canes last night, Utah went into DC and beat the Caps in the shootout. So at the break the Canes trail the Caps by 10, lead the Devils by 2. The Caps have 1 game in hand on the Canes, who have 1 game in hand on the Devils. Columbus is 8 behind the Devils but only 1 point out of the 2nd wild card.

I honestly didn't think Utah played all that badly on Saturday so I'm not surprised they shrugged it off and got a W. They had almost 5 expected goals in the game in Raleigh. They just couldn't finish anything. It wasn't Kooch so much either. He had almost 2 saves above expected but I didn't think he stood on his head other than on a couple of bang bang plays in the third. They just did what Carolina does a lot and wasted opportunities with missed shots.

You sure? Reading game threads I thought the Canes were in last place with one of the worst rosters in the league. 🤣

My hopes for a Suomi victory at this tourney are pretty much shot with the losses on defense.
Yeah, probably so. Still, you can never fully write off the Finns in international tournaments because they always manage to find a cohesive team game quicker than everybody else. And in a short tournament, that's a massive advantage.

Hoping this gets Aho and Rananen some more time to bond as well. I know they're friends but hoping Mikko can shake off the funk of being traded around friends and countrymen.

Honestly, I think he's been fine. He's getting his shots and their share of the expected goals has been pretty strong. He really just needs a couple to drop or to get a bounce or two on some rebounds. He and Aho have misfired on positioning in the O zone a couple of times, but that happens all the time to everybody. They've just been under the microscope to a ridiculous degree. It hasn't helped Rantanen that he walked in the door right as the power play decided to blow a gasket either.

Jesse Puljujarvi is coming back to North Carolina.

He signed a PTO with the Checkers.

On an unrelated note, how are you feeling Kevin and how is your treatment plan going. Hope things are getting better by the day!

Thanks for asking. I finished Chemo and radiation but the tumor in my neck has not shrunk as quickly as they hoped. We’ve done a couple of biopsy’s that indicate the cancer is gone but we can’t do the pet scan for another month. They can’t explain why I still have this large mass in my neck that is extremely painful. I’ve also been hospitalized a few times due to infection.

They don’t want to just cut out the mass if it is cancer free because it’s a complex surgery with high risk of complications and long term issues. If it’s cancer free they’d rather the body just fight it off in its own time and keep me on pain meds. If they findcancer cells then they will be forced to do the surgery because they can’t do radiation again.

🤞

If you’re feeling well enough to smack me, that’s a positive step.
