The NHL strikes out again! So they start regular season games like this and shut out the paying fans that subscribe to ESPN+ by only putting the games on NHL Network. Absolutely clueless when it comes to the large segment of the population like YouTube TV subscribers that have no opportunity to get the NHL Network yet pay for the right to have their so called “full season” NHL package on ESPN+. There is no reason why you don’t make games like the Global Series available on ESPN+ too.

NHL network is a costly addon to Spectrum. So I don't have it. I'm about to ditch spectrum cable if I can find an alternate way to watch Canes hockey. But dropping one expensive plan to pick up another expensive plan seems foolish. I literally use cable TV to watch a handful of things, hockey being the biggest.

Red Wings goalie Jack Campbell has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

Swayman and the Bruins have reportedly come to terms, per The Athletic, on an 8-year, $8.25 million AAV deal.

Someone on NHL radio on satellite was spewing some garbage about "the Boston culture" and how players will take less money just to play there. Went on and on about all of the great Bruins throughout the team's history that could've made more elsewhere but wanted to be part of the Bruins way. That was the very moment that I was rooting for Swayman to stick them with $9 million per year.

Here is the breakdown from PuckPedia. It’s $23 million in bonuses.

Yr 4 5M & 3M SB
Yr 5 5.5M & 2.5M SB
Yr 6 5.5M & 2.5M SB
Yr 7 5M & 2.5M SB

Yr 3 to 6: No Move

If Columbus had any luck it would be bad. Both Boone Jenner and Dimitri Voronkov are out long term with upper body injuries.

This is ... that was kinda/sorta true for a fairly long time. Although it probably had more to do with them being an automatic contender so long as Bergeron was around.

And I'm gonna guess at least $2 million of those bonuses is the tax Boston paid for Neely running off his mouth.

Utah signed Kailer Yamamoto to a 1 year/2 way contract. He’ll get $775k in the NHL, $500k in the AHL.

With Hurricane Milton taking dead aim at Tampa, with landfall expected on Wednesday, the Bolts cancelled their preseason game with Nashville tonight. And the Florida Panthers cancelled their ring ceremony at Amerant Bank Arena, for which they charged admission with proceeds going to charity.

The Tampa Bay Bucs are bugging out today, headed to New Orleans (how strange is that?) ahead of their game against the Saints on Sunday. It wouldn’t shock me if the Bolts followed suit and headed to Raleigh tomorrow. The Canes and Bolts are supposed to play in Tampa on Saturday, we’ll have to see how that plays out.

With the location of the arena in Tampa, if they get a huge surge in the wrong spot then it could be tough to get that game in on Saturday. And State is playing in Carter Finley on Saturday night, so you couldn't just flip the venues either. Might have to postpone that one. We'll see

The Leafs signed old friends Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz to 1 year contracts. Both had been in camp on PTOs. Patches has a cap hit of $1.5 million with $873,770 in salary and the balance in performance bonuses. Lorentz is at $775k.

Edit: Patches gets half his performance bonus for playing in 10 games, the other half comes at 35 games.
